“Does not Accomodate the Elderly Despite Guaranteed Reservations”

Best Western Mountain Shadows

Felton, California

I made reservations about 2 weeks in advance. Requested a 1st floor room explaining that I was traveling with a 94 year old man who had trouble walking and guaranteed the room for late arrival.

Upon arrival, there were no 1st floor rooms available. Requested a 1st floor room for the following day which we got. There was no offer to help us move. Spoke to the manager when checking out. He was cold and uncaring explaining how their system worked and that they do not have to honor requests (although they lead you to believe everything is taken care of when the reservation is made).

I do not recommend this motel to anyone. The staff was uncaring and insensitive to our needs of the needs of the elderly man I was with. This is a very shameful position for Best Western to take. The elderly and disabled should be respected and taken care of.

We did not stay at another Best Western for the rest of our vacation and do not plan to to do so in the future.

PS: The hot and cold was reversed in the shower and the electrical sockets in the room were in very poor shape. We have a PAP machine which we needed to plug up overnight and the plug nearly feel out of the receptacle. A fire waiting to happen. Reported it to the desk.

“Not great but would stay there again”

The Best Western Mountain Shadows was not the nicest Best Western I've stayed at, but I would consider staying there again. The room itself was ok, the frig smelled a bit, but the hotel gave us something for the smell. The wireless service does not always work in the room, so sometimes you have to go to the lobby to use it. There was a crack underneath the door to our room, and since the hotel doors open to the outside the door needed sweep. The hotel can also get noisy at nights from the noise outside.

The Best Western Mountain Shadows did have some positives to it. The breakfast was good, it had a very good selection which included waffles. The main reason I would consider staying there again would be because of the free shuttle the hotel offers which takes you from the hotel to the Ski Resort. This made our trip alot more relaxing for everyone.

To sum up everything the Best Western Mountain Shadows is not great, but its manageable for a few nights.

The room was small and certainly not worth $100. It looked like there had been an attempt to update the furnishings but it was haphazard at best. It was very cool at night so we turned the thermostat up so that we heat would come on. After 15 minutes there was no heat so we contacted the office. The young man told us that it was baseboard heating and we needed to wait. After another 20 minutes, there was still no heat. We went to the front desk and were given the option to move to another room. We turned the heat on in the new room and after an hour, there was no heat there either so we stayed in our original room. The young man at the front desk didn't really seem to care. So, we stayed cold. We wonder what it will be like in mid-Winter. Breakfast was very good.

“A bad night's sleep”

One night was plenty for us at this hotel for the following reasons:
The non-smoking room we requested reeked of stale (and fresh) cigarette smoke as did the the furniture; large noticeable stains on the carpet; adjoining room allowed us to hear our neighbor's telephone conversations and choice of television programs; paper-thin walls made it possible for us to hear everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) that adjoining room guests were doing.

We were very dissapointed in the low quality of this property since other TripAdvisor members rated it fairly well. Maybe we were in an older part of the building that didn't receive the proper updates (don't stay in room 229!)

The only redeeming part of our stay was the continental breakfast, which was very good, and of course the satisfaction in knowing that we wouldn't be spending another night there.

For $100 a night, I believe there are better, cleaner, and more sound accommodations than the Best Western Mountain Shadows.
