“Beautiful spot on Animas River -”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

This place is very pretty and quiet - right on the Animas River coming down the mountains from Silverton. Plan on a 20 minute trip into Durango - about 13 miles from downtown - so get your supplies in Durango before you go. They do have a little store with a few things - no beer.
We stayed in one of the Member cabins - which are absolutely perfect with most of the comforts of home - 2 TV's which didn't get turned on, shower, kitchen with stove/microwave/fridge.

Room Tip: Get the Member Cabins unless you want really rustic. The regular cabins are just mattress bunks - no...

This was our second stay at DRR. We were last here in July 2009, in high season. Coming early season was different ... Pool wasn't open, ice cream shop not open, office hours were fewer. But there were nice things ... It was quieter and the river was high so the view and sounds were great. A bit of a mix-up with booking, but management was great and worked it out just as we wanted. We stayed in member cabin and highly recommend it. Very clean and well stocked.

The cabins are cute and the camping spots are great. Bathrooms are clean and staff was friendly. We enjoyed the stay and loved being far enought from town to feel like we were away from it all but close enough to get to anything we wanted to do quickly

We stayed in one of the little three room cabins (LR/Kitchen, bath, bedroom) and really enjoyed it. The cabin was super clean and very charming. Each room had a small built-in heater. The bedroom sleeps five (two in one bunk bed, three in another) and the futon in the living room / kitchen area can sleep another two. The pictures on their website show you exactly what you get.

As nice as the cabin was, the deck was even better. It had a sturdy wood swing on it, a picnic bench, and a fabulous view of the river. The sound of the river was the perfect soundtrack to the lovely fall weather we enjoyed during our stay. In the mornings we saw deer grazing on the bank across the river.

The staff was very helpful. They gave us some great tips on hiking spots and things to do downtown. I called a couple of times before our arrival with questions, and they were very helpful on the phone, too. We took advantage of their linen package ($25 for the first two people, $10 for each additional person). The sheets were clean and spotless, the towels large and soft.

The location is outside Durango, between the city and Durango Mountain Resort (formerly Purgatory) in the San Juan National Forest. We hiked in the forest and visited downtown, so it was a perfect location for us.

Room Tip: If you have never stayed in an RV park cabin, remember that these are sleeper cabins. They are desi...

This RV resort is perfectly situated by the Animas River, with breathtaking views from the riverfront spots.
The staff are incredible and go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable.
The sites are well laid out and easy to navigate...a plus for parking the RV
If you travel to Durango in your RV I highly recommend this resort

Room Tip: Book early in the season and get a riverfront spot...the views and sound of the rushing waters are w...

From September 20-26, 2012, we got one of the "special price" cabins that was off the river and we could not have been happier. The park is very clean, bathrooms and showers are clean, and the cabin was also clean. Even though we were off the river, a short stroll down the hill brought us right to the waters edge. And fronting the river is some gigantic and gorgeous mountains! What else could one want when "roughing" it? The cabin had a fire ring (which we did not use), a small grill (which we did use), a porch swing (which we used), a table and chair inside, plenty of electrical sockets to recharge phones and MP3 players, and a ceiling mounted heater (which we definitely used).

I only wish the pads on the beds were just a little thicker because this old body of mine needs all the cushioning it can get. But, since it was just my wife and I, we took the pads off the bunk beds and added them to the full sized bed....problem solved.

We experienced no bugs of any kind, but did have one inquisitive squirrel who produced a moonroof in our styrofoam cooler. But it was our fault for leaving it outside with goodies on the inside. No bears, no deer, no varmints of any kind. All in all this is one nice campground, with beautiful views and a great value for the buck, especially if you get the "special pricing" rate. It is in a great location, close to both Durango and Silverton. If we decide to go visit that area again, and I feel certain we will because we ride our motorcycles for the adventure, then this is one campground that will definitely get our vote as our place to stay!
