okay- you expect some great service for a hotel who charges over 100 a night. The lady with grey and white hair at night was so rude! when I asked for a rollaway she told me she would get to it and then stated she had none left after two hours of waiting for her. At the time of check in - she basically rushed us out of the office stating she has alot of people to wait on-at the time there was no one in there but me and my husband. She didnt even know why she had to charge her credit card and kept stating how someone name Kathy was ruining the business by moving stuff. She looked irritated by our presence, I guess we coulld have left and gave our business to another motel, nut we stayed a night and could not wait to leave in the morning. I think she needs some customer service training!!! I would not stay here again and I would not recommend to anyone. After she told us she was expecting other people and waiting to serve others, she got on her cell phone.

First of this place is not a ‘destination’ hotel; it’s a room with a bed in an unbeatable location. The property is older but right in the middle of Downtown Durango. The rooms are clean, the service is friendly and for the location the price cannot be beat! I have stayed at several places in Durango over the years and have stayed at this property multiple times. You can stay at much nicer places in the same area all within walking distance to D&SNGRR depot but you will pay at least twice the rate. If you expect to be pampered this is not the hotel for you, If you want a clean room at a unbelievably convenient location while saving some money there is nothing wrong with this place.

This was a nice surprise. Staying during November, we received their off-season rate and it was a real bargain. The room was nice and you can't beat the location. The linens were in good condition and the room was clean. The staff was very friendly.

The only drawback was the continental breakfast. The bagels were pretty dry and there was no place to sit to eat. But the Durango Diner is just a few blocks away and it makes a great breakfast.

Otherwise, it was a great stay. Be sure to check out the used book store across the street.

The hotel itself is not bad at all. Location close to the Durango-Silverton Railway, friendly people at the check in, pool, walking distance to Main Street with restaurants and shops and only to doors away from the small movie theatre.

But:

1. Durango is crowded in the summer, especially the weekend. So the rate we were given was pretty high if you consider that the room size was not really big and it's not a 'great, special hotel'.
2. The wireless internet connection did not work at all during our stay (early afternoon until morning next day), even though they rebooted it a couple of times
3. We slept in a room on the 2nd floor that was very close to an extremely noisy airconditioning (from the Mexican restaurant next door?). We prefer to sleep with open window, but that was not an option. Didn't sleep well at all.
4. The parking lot fills up very quickly. You can park around the corner or in an overflow parking lot, but then you can't see you car from your hotel room.

So...maybe if we would have had another room and if the rate would have been lower, we would consider to come back.

  • Liked — walking distance to Main Street
  • Disliked — noise, Wifi out of order

We stayed at the Durango Lodge for 2 nights recently. We loved the experience! The rooms were nicer than you generally find in the chain motels. It had central A/C which meant that it was a lot quieter at night. The bathroom was large with a nice walk in shower. The best part of the Durango Lodge was the location. It is only a block from the train station, which is handy for the early morning trains (as well as a saving as you have to pay for parking at the train station) It is right at the edge of the historic downtown section, so you can walk everywhere in town you could possibly want to go to. Which is a good thing as the downside of the Durango Lodge is that they do not have enough parking. We would not want to have moved our car for the two days as we were unsure we would ever be able to get another parking spot!! But you don't need the car in town anyway, so it was not a big deal. There was a nice pool and indoor hot tub available. Another downside to this hotel is the breakfast. The food is available in the tiny office, but there is no room to sit, so you have to take the food back to your room to eat. This is not convenient, and you end up spilling the drinks. A proper breakfast room would be much better!! But aside from breakfast and parking problems, this place was wonderful. The next time we go to Durango, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. The location and the price made this place a real find.
