We were here two nights before it went down for the season.
We arrived a little after six, although we did make reservations and actually got a really great seat. There were nine of us in our party and we were the only Asians there. A lot of guests were staring at us over the course of the dinner which made some of the people in our party a little nervous.
We enjoyed the train ride and the gift shops were cute and overpriced, but there was a really nice playground for our kids with play yard rides I haven't seen since the seventies. It was a nice way to relax before the food was served.
I found the review about "prison trays" funny, because there's not much difference between a prison tray and a chuckwagon plate. The food was ok for what it was, and while the beef (and bbq sauce!) was tasty, the chicken was a little dry and the steaks were all well done. (The one person in our party who had the steak didn't like it that cooked...) The apple sauce was good and the lemonade was really good. Seconds were offered after everybody went through the line the first time. I was impressed that they were able to feed 600+ people in 25 minutes- they have that part of the experience wired.
Overall, for a $26 per person meal, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either.
The show was ok, there were a couple of funny songs, but there were also a couple of offensive songs that poked at gay and Mexican folk, which made me wonder if any of them actually knew any gay or Mexican folk. The other thing that made us a little uncomfortable was how much religion was involved. They expected us to lower our heads for a "moment of silence" before the meal was served and ended it with an "amen," and the finale of the show was a medley of super patriotic religious songs, which was a real turnoff.
