“Best campground ever.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

We stayed at Lightner Creek Campground again this year which is year number 31 for us being there. The new owners are wonderful and the campground is just as great as it has been for many years. It is beautiful, clean, quiet, peaceful, and the hosts are very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Ask the owners--they are very helpful and will fulfill your needs.

This campground is awesome! The owners are very nice and accomodating. The facilities are well maintained. The bathroom and showers are spotless. Easy access to town. The campground is nestled between mountains by a stream. Quiet, clean and beautiful!

Room Tip: Can accommodate big motor homes

This is a beautiful place that is located up a canyon about 10 minutes or so from town. We stayed in a camper cabin. The bathrooms are really clean and the pool was very nice and clean as well. There is a small playground for kids too. The camper cabin was just like any other, but the lights are solar- powered, which is cool. It was a little dirty, but we have stayed in enough camper cabins to be prepared to do a full wipe- down ourselves and to bring something to put over the mattresses that we will put our sleeping bags on top of. We loved our stay and would go back again!

If you want to camp someplace close to downtown, this is the place to go. It ha all the amenities like showers and a store (they sell ice for $2 bag), which the forest service campgrounds do not offer. It's kind of 'camping lite' but if you want to be close to everything, be able to shower, yet still be officially camping, this is it. Owners are also as nice as can be.

My family was blessed with a stay at Lightner Creek July 18th-22nd. We drove in the dark with rain but even that kind of start did not dampen our vacation. We stayed in a tent among tent trailers. Their were several families and much to our delight, dogs. The campground was blessfully quiet after 10 p.m. and one would never know there were so many kids at the campground. The owners were very nice and helpful but the best part was the bathrooms! As many other reviewers pointed out, they are clean, big, and fantastic water pressure. Even though I enjoy tent camping, the bathrooms are a priority. I will be back next year!

This is quite simply the nicest campground we have ever stayed at. Its close to Durango but still quiet and secluded and is incredibly CLEAN. It is beautifully landscaped and laid out very well and has more hummingbirds than we have ever seen in one place.
Bathrooms and showers were bright, well ventilated and well maintained. The showers are always HOT and have great water pressure. They even have dishwashing sinks.
The store they have has most of the convenience items you might need including charcoal and ice. Its open from 8 to 8.
The pool is clean and cool and although we didn't use the playground, lots did.
The laundry has several washers and dryers at $2 a wash and .25 a dry for 20 min. and its open 24 hours.
The hosts are just great and patrol frequently to make sure everything is kept up, trash emptied, etc. They really make you feel at home.
The ONLY suggestion we had was recycling.
The week was a great experience and we recommend this place highly.

This is one of the best campgrounds we've stayed in. We were on the creek and enjoyed the Colorado beauty while being ten minutes from town. It is very quiet, the bathrooms and showers are spotless, and the surroundings are beautiful. Electric is available even for some tent sites. This will definitely be an annual trip for us.
