This a a very nice, small historic hotel in the heart of Durango downtown. Most o fthe furnishings are antique replicas, but the look and feel is old west elegance. Only drawback is the tiny elevator.
Very quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast is included, and it is very satisfying and easy in aa cozy breakfast room. Staff is very courteous and helpful. No bar, but there are a bunch of places within 1 block walking distance. Rooms are not super large, but are very comfortable and nicely decorated. No King beds in the main hotel (they do have some Kings in the annex which we did not see). Queen size bed is VERY comfortable with GREAT pillows. If you get a west facing room, you will hear the evening trains returning to the railyard, a reminder if times past. Lots of great restaurants within walking distance.

Room tip: Ask for a north or east facing room if you don't want to hear the steam train.

Staying at this hotel felt like stepping back in time (in a good way), the decor is just awesome and the lift is the best bit!
The hotel is very central and quiet.
The room was very cosy and clean overlooking the town, and the bed was comfy.
The staff and especially Jeff were amazing and super helpful. We ve been given tons of restaurants recommendations and we ended up having the best steak we had in months at a restaurant called Ore House opposite the hotel. Thanks again for the recommendation Jeff! :)
Continental breakfast was good.
We would definitely stay there again!

Stayed two nights here before and after riding the train. Beautiful old lobby, but our room was in the outbuilding by their restaurant, which was a perk for us because it was very quiet and even more convenient to the train station, as in a 50 yard walk! One small downside was that the wifi was a little weak and spotty out there, but the phone data signal was good enough to overcome that. Very nice layout of the room and bathroom as well as a very comfortable bed. This place was cheaper than the Strater, and in just as good a location in downtown old Durango with its great selection of stores, bars and restaurants. Heck, we got there early on our first day and decided on a movie, which was also just outside the back door of the hotel!

This historic property has been well maintained with lots of period furnishings throughout the hotel and restaurant which gives you a feeling of what it must have been like to stay at such a hotel back in the old days. The front desk manager was pleasant and helpful when asked questions about the town and restaurants. Although the hotel is located next to the Durango Train Station, the trains stop running around 8P so there's no need to worry about hearing a train whistle blowing in the middle of the night. It has alot of character and charm including an old operating elevator that at best can accomodate 2 adults with luggage at a time. Fresh baked cookies are offered in the hotel lobby after 12N. Our English friends were so enamoured with the hotel that the lady did not want to leave!! The continental breakfast was very nice and items were served on china plates and hot drinks on china as well-no plastic here!! The main street area where most all the shops and restaurants are located are only a 5 minute walk away. The town is clean and safe to walk at night. We enjoyed listening to the piano player at the Strater Hotel located just a few blocks away. This was by far the nicest historic hotel I've experienced in a long time. My only regret was that we did not have enough time in our road trip itinerary to ride the train....which gives me an excuse to return.

Room tip: We drove to the hotel and arrived at the side where there were only steps leading into the hotel which made handling the luggage difficult. We discovered after checking in, that we should have walked around the hotel as there was a ramp on the opposite side leading into the hotel lobby.
