Owner description: Hop aboard a coal-fired, steam-powered locomotive that travels along the same railroad tracks that miners, cowboys and the early settlers of the Old West used over a hundred years ago. The route winds in and out of canyons and past open wilderness affording great views. The price of a ticket also includes admission to the D&SNGRR Museum and the Silverton Freight Yard Museum.

“One way is plenty”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2014

My in-laws bought the whole family(14 of us) tickets to go on the Cascade Canyon trip the day after Xmas. My teenage kids(and my wife and I) were not super excited about this present but knew we had to do it for Grandma and Grandpa...cars were plenty warm(we had the window open on the ride back) but seats are not real comfortable...once you get into the mountains the views are spectacular but the 5+ hour round trip was too long(the younger kids in our group were super bored) and we all would've been happy to have it end once we got to Cascade Canyon to turn around...we packed our own lunch and enjoyed eating next to the roaring river...we got a couple of the all-u-can drink hot chocolate/cider cups and shared them and that seemed to work pretty well...overall a decent experience but we wouldn't do it again...

“What can I say?”

If you haven't taken the train yet it must be on your bucket list. Gorgeous scenery. But what isn't beautiful in the San Juan's.

“Polar Express ride was great!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

Pros: Our kids LOVED it!!!!! The looks on their faces were so precious! We rode on the Deluxe car, which was great because the seats flipped in reverse so our whole family can sit facing each other.

Cons: It's really chaotic! Lots and lots of kids.

“Amazing Train Ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2014

We rode the train to the Cascade Canyons and it was an amazing trip. The views were wonderful. The food served in the concession car was just about average. We had coffee, hot chocolate, beans burrito, breakfast burrito, and hot dog. I would suggest packing your own food.

Overall, the trip was about 5 hours. They stop for about 30 minutes at the Cascade Canyons and we had a wonderful time going around. There were beautiful views of the mountains.
