“One of the best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

Staying at Country Sunshine was an amazing experience. Jodi & Walter are two of the best B&B hosts that we've had the pleasure to meet. The inn was super comfortable, dining area with huge tables great for interacting with other guests, lots of bird watching from the patio, common area with toasty fireplace & a refrigerator filled with beer, wine, soft drinks, water, etc. for guests (a first for us at any B&B). Can't forget to mention the yummy cookies baked by Walter & the nightly desserts. What a treat! Walter even has all his recipes available for guests to take home. Must try his chocolate torte soon - it was the best. Can't wait to return to the Durango area & Country Sunshine.

My husband and I stayed in the Writer's Den room at the Country Sunshine. I can honestly say that this is one of the best bed and breakfasts that we have ever experienced. The inn is so charming and the hosts are absolutely wonderful. Breakfast was delicious, and the nightly desserts were amazing (my husband doesn't usually eat dessert, but he loved Walter's creations). The little details and the amenities made our stay very enjoyable. If you are going to be in the Durango area, you must stay here. The only problem is that you will have a hard time leaving.

Room Tip: Writer's Den was comfortable, roomy, and clean.

The Country Sunshine B&B was everything all the reviews have said! It certainly was one of the nicest stays we have ever had at a B&B. We even made reservations in late afternoon of the evening we arrived and Walter and Jodi were so very accommodating and such wonderful hosts. They have exceeded the standard. We will certainly be returning!

My husband and I stayed at Country Sunshine mid-September 2013.What a truly wonderful bed and breakfast experience.Jodi and Walter were great, nothing was too much trouble for them..and oh, those deserts Walter made for everyone each evening..mmmm! The communal area encourages guests to intermindle instead of just retiring to their rooms in an evening.Breakfasts were great and the rooms very clean and cosy but sadly our room did not have any drawers and when you are staying at a place for more than one or two nights somewhere to put your'knickers'is essential, living out of luggage cases is a bind.Unfortunately, the lack of drawer space in US b&b's is almost the norm.and can make life in a room very difficult with clothes strewn everywhere. But this did not detract from the great time we had at Country Sunshine and would not hesitate to return. We recommend this B&B as one of the best we have ever stayed in on our many visits to the US.and to Jodi,Walter and all the staff we say a very big 'thank you'for making our all to short stay so great.

Country Sunshine B&B is a comfortable and welcoming place run by a delightful couple who care and they and their staff go out of their way to ensure your stay is an enjoyable one. We were so impressed and Walters daily cookies were to die for especially the choc chip salt caramel ones. Every day a new batch appeared on the dining table for everyone to enjoy. Wine, beer and soft drinks were available in the comfortable lounge downstairs. Breakfasts were a culinary delight eg one day we had pumpkin waffles, Canadian bacon and maple syrup.....and every evening a new and interesting dessert was also included...this place exceeds all expectations in every way. The rooms are wonderful, the bathrooms large and well appointed with everything one may need. One day after a rather large lunch in town we brought a few deli items back for dinner ...this is encouraged and the fire was lit downstairs and everything we needed, plates, cutlery , glasses etc was all there on hand. Our US friends had once lived in Durango and they too were so impressed. The location is a few kilometres outside Durango in a lovely area, lots of Aspen trees and a river nearby. A small herd of deer wandered through the grounds at twilight one afternoon and so many birds come to feed on the feeders hanging in the trees that lean over the balconies.
It is a wonderful place to stay. If you are planning to ride the Durango- Silverton Railway... A MUST then book it from the Rockwood Station nearby not Durango.
Thank you Jodie & Walter!!!! We just loved our stay.

Room Tip: We loved our room upstairs, it was quiet and had lovely views.

What a sweet Bed and Breakfast. The owners are charming, and willing to help in any way possible. The homemade cookies and desserts alone are enough to make us want to return. Just a one night stop on our way to Snowmas, but the stars almost made us want to stay an extra day. Far enough out in the country that there is no light pollution, which creates a wonderful feeling of tranquility.

The Country Sunshine is the B&B you occasionally fantasise about running (but know in your hearts you couldn't). It's located some miles outside Durango, which for us was a drawback, but we reckon this was a price well worth paying for the quality of the hospitality from Walter, Jodi and Norma. Our room was comfortable, in rustic style, and there were facilities in the grounds (hammocks, a hot tub, a fire pit) but in a cool October we didn't use them. Downstairs there is a lounge area with a fire which Walter kept going with logs, and a fridge with free wine, beer and soft drinks. Upstairs there is a large dining/lounge area with tea and coffee facilities, maps, etc. Walter makes an excellent dessert each evening and a cooked breakfast dish for the morning. The effect of this layout and hospitality is that the various guests interact with each other, and the experience becomes more like a house party than a hotel. Very strongly recommended.
