Great BBQ at good prices. It was Tator Night when we were there, big size potatoes with BBQ, sour cream, chives and butter. Yummy!! We also had a Pork sandwich, good too. Great no frills restaurant with great BBQ

“Needs improvement!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2009

There are two Serious Texas BBQ restaurants in Durango. We ate in the north side location. Parking is limited. They have inside and outside seating. A single line brings you to the counter, where you order, watch them prepare and serve the BBQ. Drinks and salads are self serve from coolers and iced tubs. The crew working the counter was always on the move, but lacking coordination. One employee was handing out pocket size menus, but not explaining how things work. The customers were mostly locals.

We ordered a pulled pork sandwich. Sauce was OK, but served lukewarm -- it should be piping hot. They are not keeping the steam table warm enough or leaving the cover open too much. The sliced pork was better. Atmosphere was very much traditional BBQ with cheap tables, concrete floors, sports themed decorations and metal accents.

Looking for a cheap quick meal in Durango? Until they get their act together, I would suggest going some place else.

“The best food on our trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2009

I saw this restaurant in a local book and wanted to try. My husband isn't crazy about Barbeque but agreed to try it. Ww were with our grown son, daughter-in-law, and 10 year old daughter. Everybody loved it! The meat was so tender and tasty. The sauces and salsas were to die for. I ended up buying jars to take home. You must try this place if you are in Durango.

“Not impressed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2009

We have a similiar restaurant in Albuquerque, called Rudy's and it outshines Serious Texas Barbeque. The two teenage girls behind the counter, appeared to not have teeth, couldn't tell because they never smiled or said thank you. The portions were extremely small and the beans were undercooked. Hotel front desk clerk had recommended, she shouldn't have.
