In the past we've stayed at a number of Ritz-Carltons, always on the club floor, and have found it to be a good value, a great experience, and much easier to manage when vacationing with kids. The club floors all serve either 4 or 5 food presentations throughout the day, starting with an ample continental breakfast (fresh fruit, a great variety of croissants, muffins, and sweet rolls, oatmeal, mueslix, very good fruit juices, and great coffee), continuing with a lighter but decent lunch (a variety of sandwiches and a very good make-your-own salad), dinner hors d'oeuvres (great and interesting variety), and late-evening desserts (usually chocolate-covered strawberries and a selection of pies and cakes and various wine and beers).
However, the Denver club floor was a very big disappointment as far as the food presentations. Breakfast was okay, not a big selection but not bad. For lunch, though, they served a few tiny tea sandwiches, chips, and some tiny glasses with a few sticks of celery, carrots, and endive - no salad, and nothing substantial. Dinner hors d'oeuvres consisted of a few bland tiny appetizers and a little cheese and crackers - nothing resembling others in either quality or presentation that I've seen at other Ritz Carltons. And the dessert "presentation" was an absolute joke - a few chocolate "truffles" - i.e. chocolates - in a tiny serving bowl. That was it! We asked the club floor concierge, and were told that "this was all the pastry chef sent up".
We're left wondering if this major club floor down-sizing applies to all Ritz-Carltons, or is only a local aberration Denverites must be ashamed of.
Besides the club floor issues, the lack of a pool for kids (there's one next door that they can swim in on the weekends only), and the fact that this hotel is in a seedy part of town, the rooms themselves were beautiful and immaculate, filled with every amenity you'd expect to see at a Ritz-Carlton. And the valets and bellmen were outstanding. But, save your money, don't waste it on the worthless club floor upgrades.
