We wanted a special night in the Mile High City to celebrate our 20th anniversary, and the Ritz Carlton Denver did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived, our car was taken to valet parking, our luggage handled and door opened....it was just lovely. As we approached check in, the receptionist addressed us by name (I think the valets must have radioed ahead...but nice touch!) and we were spirited away to our room. It was beautifully appointed in classic Ritz style, incredible bedding, the lovely robes to lounge in.....just so relaxing, like a deep breath of zen. About a 1/2 hour after check in, a knock at the door-----champagne and chocolate covered strawberries, courtesy of Ritz Management, in celebration of our anniversary. What a lovely touch. Then it was time for dinner at Elways. I had done my research, and learned that Elways was known for their steaks. We were treated like royalty, greeted by the hostess by name. I was given a single red rose, husband received a small sampling of their steak run to take home, and we had a lovely, personalized and hand-written card from management waiting for us at our table. I swear, we must have had "It's our anniversary" tattooed on our foreheads, because we were feted by nearly every employee of the restaurant who passed by. :) Nice touch. Waiter Dave was wonderful, combining just the right amount of small talk with enough to make us feel welcome. We started out with the calamari, peppers on the side, and it was fabulous. Took us awhile to identify the strange calamari shapes......which we later learned were fried olives and baby corn cobbs. Then on to dinner---my husband had the petite fillet, fantastic, and I had the broilled salmon with lump crab and shrimp. Out...of...this...WORLD. Add a brilliant bottle of red meritage (thanks for the recommendation, Dave, it was spot on!), and we were in heaven......too full for dessert, but we were brought a delish brownie bowl in honor of our anniversary (we have to remember this place!) which was just enough of a taste to top off a wonderful dinner. Back in our room, I took a soak in the spacious tub, and we called it a night. Checkout the enxt morning was a breeze, car was brought promptly, and they even had a cup of coffee to-go waiting for me from Elways. It was "their pleasure." What a wonderful weekend. We wouldn't hesistate to recommend the Ritz Denver, and will make plans to stay again if we are in the area in the future.
The ONLY thing we found even a tad disappointing was the view from our room. We were in Denver, we...
