We recently stayed at the Ramada Inn Downtown in Denver for 5 nights as part of our round the world trip.

We paid $85 a night, which I believe to be quite reasonable in Denver, true you are not quite in the centre of the action, but it is only a 10min walk to the pedestrianised centre. There is free parking available for those with cars (not us), and also a very handy shuttle service to all the local attractions. The shuttle isn't on demand, but regularly goes every hour and is a nice touch for those that have travelled on foot.

Check in was fine, reasonably friendly staff and a room on the 3rd floor. Room was very nice, quite big, bathroom was ok, overall we were very happy. Cleaning was spotless thoughout our stay. Reception was very nice, although we can't comment on the bar or restaurant as we didn't visit there areas. Probably the only downside is the slowness of the lifts, but as there are only a few levels, using the stairs was very quick. One other notable plus was the addition of a laundry room, this included a washer and dryer which was a nice bonus, and for only about $1 per load. There is also a laundrette right next door to the property.

I must disagree with previous comments on the location. It is only about a 10min walk from the main tourist area, with shops and restaurants abound. We found the walk down Colfax to be quite pleasant, and there were certainly never any homeless kicking around outside the hotel. In fact, the transportation links were good also, with a stop right outside the hotel which took you to downtown if you wanted to save those legs. A further bonus was that the hotel was located about 5mins walk from the Fillmore Auditorium, very handy when you've got tickets to see The Killers!!!! In fact there are also some nice little coffee shops, bars and restaurants in close proximity to the hotel.

All in all we were very happy with the stay at the Ramada. It is a lengthy transfer from Denver International, but this would be the same with all hotels as Downtown just seems to be miles from the airport.

As for Denver itself, we absolutely loved it and will return again when we decide to take in more of the rocky mountain area.

  • Liked — Close proximity to the Fillmore, very comfortable bed
  • Disliked — Slightly dated room interior

Stayed here recently when we were in town for an event at the nearby children's hospital. Pros: Free parking (this is a big deal in Denver, and saved us 30 dollars), shuttle took us to all the places we needed to go, comfortable bed, amazingly quiet. Cons: Old hotel, if that sort of thing bothers use. Bathrooms were really outdated, Fan/AC/heater was really loud. And, while the shuttle TOOK us anywhere we needed to go, getting back was always a bit of a problem (we called at 7:50 for a pickup in LoDo, and we were told that they would be there at 9:30!! Needless to say, we walked. The hottub is only open seasonably, which is unfortunate. At this price, I would really like a hottub.
I'd stay again, and I'd recommend it. Just know that because of the way they run the shuttles, you'll probably end up taking a cab or walking a mile at least once during you stay.

  • Liked — quiet, free parking
  • Disliked — difficult to get return shuttle to hotel

I stayed in the Ramada because it was inexpensive, and it turned out to be a great deal. Yes, the room product was very cheap, but the front desk staff was friendly, the shuttle was convenient and the price was right!

As for the neighborhood, if you're looking for the cutesy downtown Denver, this is not it. But the hotel is close to many (most?) of the clubs and small concert venues, and it's the closest hotel to the city's gay scene.

This was by far the worst hotel Ive stayed at in Denver. The hotel is in a really bad section of town. Take 2 steps out the door and your met by a bum asking for money. The website states that the hotel was newly renovated but I didnt see any signs of that. The food in the restaurant was terrible and the bar was filled with with Gothic looking people with tatoos and bodypiercings all over, including the bartenders. The room was terrible, i saw at least 4 bugs during my 3 nite stay. The front desk staff didnt seem to care and the offered free shuttle service was usually full and didnt go the advertized 3 miles, (It was only 2 miles). Do youself a favor any stay away from this hotel. Your trip will be much better for it.

This hotel misleads you as it advertises it was renovated recently. Only the hotel rooms near the lobby were renovated, but there are two more buildings behind it.
We stayed in the building behind the lobby.
The glasses in the bathroom had lipstick marks on them, and water in them.
A lamp was burned out, and the room was generally dingy. The clock next to the bed didn't work...and speaking of the bed.
It was a king size, but my husband "rolled up the hill" as he called it. On each side, the bed caved in, as they must be very old.
These old matresses squeak. So, we got to listen to the people above us "squeaking" from 3-4 am. We did not sleep well at all at this hotel.
The only good thing about our stay was the hot breakfast.
