“Good Location, Adequate but Nothing Special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

I've stayed at this hotel many times for business but haven't gotten around to reviewing it yet. I probably do 30-50 hotel nights in any given year so I'm likely more particular than most:

Pros:
1) Excellent location walking distance to LoDo, Larimer Square, and 16th St. Mall
2) Good views on upper floors, especially those facing West.
3) Good beds and relatively recent room upgrades.

Cons:
1) Small Lobby; limited seating. There are ongoing renovations at the hotel which may make it better but it probably isn't the best place for a business meeting as it stands now.
2) Smaller bathrooms by most Westin standards but fairly well appointed. Not a huge issue for business traveler. More of an issue for leisure travelers
3) I had a room with a connecting door one time and the soundproofing between the interconnecting rooms is horrible. Request a room without an interconnecting door

I have not used the fitness facilities here so I cannot comment on those. The last time I tried they were under construction and the hotel offered my free passes to the Denver Athletic Club, which was phenomenal.

My overall opinion is that it is a perfectly adequate hotel in a good location. Worth staying at if you are trying to log SPG points or if you can get a good rate and value the location close to the "happening" part of Downtown Denver. There are better hotels in Denver if you value a luxury hotel experience.

Room Tip: Request a room with a West facing view and no inter-connecting doors.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent experience here. I agree; we have the best location of any hotel in the Denver area with easy access to the sports arenas, restaurants and night clubs. I am excited to report that our $5 million meeting space renovation is complete and provides additional seating in our lobby level, as well as the mezzanine level for impromptu business meetings. Thank you for your loyalty to the Westin Denver Downtown. We hope to have you as our guest again soon.

We had a one night stay while in Denver to catch a baseball game. The hotel is within walking distance to the stadium. Also within walking distance to most places downtown. The lobby is well maintained. The staff at check in had a bit of a hard time. Yet no trouble and was very polite.

They have a pool on the 4th floor. It is an indoor/outdoor pool that is not heated. Our kids were willing to get in and play, to cold for my taste.

Our upgrade was to a suite, which was nice. The kids enjoyed the Murphy bed. Our rooms were also very clean. Bathrooms were modern and also clean.

The room service was actually better than most for breakfast.

Overall a nice stay.

Room Tip: As high as possible.

Stayed on the Westin - conveniently located on the 16th St. Mall. Asked for a room with a mountain view - worth the slight additional charge. Staff was very pleasant and helpful when the initial room assignment was not consistent with my reservation - requested a mountain view room with initial reservation but initially received non-mountain view room. Staff corrected the error and took care of moving our luggage. Room was adequate though slightly worn - trimmed slightly dinged. Bed was comfortable. Convenient location - close to Larimer Square, can walk to Coors Field, couple of blocks from Performing Arts Center, easy to hop on Mall Bus to Civic Center Park. Walked to Chalk Art Festival, show at DCPA, took bus to People's Fair at Civic Center Par, and walked to Coors Field. Used valet parking - somewhat overpriced but much easier than self-park. Ridiculous that they still charge for in-room internet (maximum of 3 devices).

Room Tip: Higher level, mountain view

Thanks for providing us feedback about your recent stay. While parking prices may seem high, the company that owns and operates the parking structure (not affiliated with our hotel in any fashion other than offering our guests the opportunity to park in proximity to the hotel) assures us that their prices are competitive with other area hotels. We do offer complimentary internet in our Lobby and Entrance Level Lobby near Starbuck’s but do follow Starwood and Westin standards of charging for this service in our guest rooms. I agree; we have the best location of any hotel in the Denver area with easy access to the sports arenas, restaurants and night clubs. We hope to have you back soon!

It is an unfortunate reality that all too often when staying in a "name brand"hotel it doesn't live up to the name. That is not the case in this hotel. It is everything a business Hotel should be and completing that is a friendly, helpful front desk staff.

Valet ($32)is way easier than self-park ($25), but this cost really turned me off as a customer.
Pool was very nice although we didn't use it, the deck is nice, nice view of the city from this perspective. Room was spacious, very clean and the bed was very comfy. Appetizer at the bar was good. Breakfast buffet was good, $16.50 (ouch). Hotel has good proximity for walking in downtown Denver. Staff is very nice and attentive.

We stayed at the Westin Denver to attend my neice's wedding. This hotel is extreemly well located directly next to 16th St. Mall. This Westin property is modern and well maintained. Our room was extreemly comfortable and the staff was great. Oh, don't let me forget that it has a great pool on the 4th floor overlooking the city.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a view of the mountains.

Was at the Westin for a conference recently. Had a king room, nice size, clean and with most amenities (the Wifi was negotiated into the room by my conference, otherwise you would have to pay for it). Good dark curtains, comfortable bed and general quiet made for relaxed sleeping. Actually I ended up napping a couple times late in the afternoon in the arm chair, so that also was pretty comfortable. Now I used the term "general quiet" because I did not hear guests in adjacent rooms, or above, but I could hear doors slam shut along the hallway and I hate that. Also, because my room was on the 4th floor which is where the pool and rec area is, I got a little more hallway traffic so I would recommend asking for a different floor. Otherwise, as others have noted, a well-run establishment, a fairly typical Westin, in the heart of the downtown and convenient to many things. Because of its location so near to bars and restaurants it does not really need, or have, a strong on-site F&B presence. There's a Starbucks on the groundfloor and a lobby bar that appears to be more for guests and meeting attendees than a destination in its own right. The Palm Restaurant which you can enter from the groundfloor appears to be part of the famous Palm steakhouse chain and not run by the hotel.
