We were in Denver for one night following a business trip, so my husband and I wanted to check out the Uptown Denver neighborhood. We had stayed in downtown a few days before. We prefer historic or unique hotels to sterile chain hotels.
The Warwick was a great home base for exploring the Uptown/Capital districts. This hotel is a little dated - the lobby looks like it's straight from the set of "Mad Men", 60's decor. Don't stay here if you are looking for luxury... but do stay here if you want a convenient location and comfortable stay. I found out that many Denver-area locals make the Warwick their home when they want to stay in the city, since the price is reasonable.
The roof-top pool is wonderful. I sat out by the pool and watched the sun set. There's a great view of skyscrapers and the mountains. The room was large and comfortable. The carpet had some stains, but the facilities were clean. My only gripe was the garbage truck showing up at 5 a.m. on a Saturday, beeping and crashing around for a long time.
The fitness center was large, with great views. I would stay here again.
The front desk clerk told me they provide transportation to downtown for free, only the cost of the gratuity for the driver. We chose to walk around and found some great spots in walking distance. There are some spotty areas, but I never felt unsafe. You will find diversity here, i.e. some gay bars and lots of young energy. The locals directed us to some favorites: we ate at Jonesy's on Logan, and at Jelly's for breakfast. The sweet potato tater tots at Jonesy's were to die for! There were countless other eateries that would have been worth a visit. The City Park with the Science Museum is only about a mile and 1/2 away, would have been a good walk. The state capital is close by, too.
