My husband and I got married here almost 3 years ago, May 21, 2005. To this day, our friends will every once in a while just mention (without any prompting from us) how we threw the best wedding they've ever been to. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, the food was fantastic (especially the salmon) and the surroundings elegant.

We stayed in a Victorian deluxe room, and it was very spacious - large enough to provide plenty of getting ready space for me and my bridesmaids. I loved the antique bathroom, and the room was richly decorated, and it wasn't loud even though it was on 17th Street. The hotel surprised us by throwing in the "romance" package (see their website) so when we returned from our wedding, there was chilled champagne and a rose petal path to the bed.

The Cruise Room is world-class (it's modeled after a lounge on the Queen Mary), and the restaurant, which we've eaten at several times, is always delicious, and is also very elegant. I read one review that said it had a poor atmosphere - I can only guess that they went to the bar (which is in a separate room). The atmosphere in the bar isn't poor, but it isn't anything special.

The Oxford will always have a special place in my heart.

This is a charming, old hotel that has lots of character. It's located in historic downtown Denver, steps from Union Station and Coors Field. There are lots of cafes and restaurants in the area and its 1 block from the 16th St. mall.

The lobby is a beautiful set piece from the 19th century. The bell staff and front desk staff were very helpful. The bellman arranged for a free towncar ride for me on 10 minutes notice.

I had a king bed room. The bed was big and the room was spacious. The bathroom was small and the fixtures were old. The showerhead was about 5' high - hit me in the chest! The bathrooms really should be updated, but all in all it was fine for me.

My room was on the 3rd floor and faced 17th St. There was some street noise, especially in the morning when the bus went by.

Trade offs, certainly, but this place has a soul.

I love the character of the hotel, and we had a nice larger room. It was comfortable and nicely furnished. The hotel has nice wide hallways, and coffee is served on each floor in the mornings.

When we checked in we were given a standard room, even though we booked (and paid for) a deluxe room - that was quickly corrected, but we were told we had to call the hotel directly if we wanted to request a certain type of room (we booked on Expedia). I did actually try to book directly on the Hotel website, but no larger rooms were available on there. So obviously some miscommunication there.

We were extremely unimpressed with breakfast. Based on recommendations on this site, we did not order room-service. But the restaurant was also very poor. Our waitress forget about half our order and never returned to check on us. The atmosphere was unpleasant and the food was not good.

We used the hotel's courtesy car on one occasion, and were pleased with the service. Not too impressed with the cost of parking however.

I love to stay here when I travel through Denver. The rooms are marvelously appointed and service is impeccable. A town car will take you anywhere in the downtown area. Not for folks who like the modern or minimalist aesthetic.

As locals, we often visit downtown hotels to celebrate special occasions, or just nice dates. There is nothing special at this hotel. A deep cleaning would go far but the showstopper is the guest rooms. Dreary, depressing, and tiny, did I say tiny? More importantly, this (tiny) bedroom failed to serve its function. Storage, non-existent. Not even bedside tables. Our clothing was piled on the floor, bed, and draped over chairs. Luxury bedding not available here. While the tiny bathroom appeared to be updated, daily necessities were again ... stored on the floor. Ah, and the toilet. It's a loud one, and I wouldn't want to be sitting on it at the moment of flush. Make sure you know where small animals are before you flush!

Room temperature control did little to cool the room off. We did a couples massage, it was nice. The spa is funky and the people are very nice. Staff in general are very pleasant but there's just no way a few brief encounters can offset the limitations of this property. Location convenient. A great place to escape from.

Management response from TimelessOxford, Director of Operations
(Management representative)
Feb 21, 2008
Dear DenverKat,

Thank you for your candid review of The Oxford Hotel. Upon reading, I had to double check that you were writing about The Oxford Hotel as your experience was so contrary to everything we strive to accomplish. Our rooms range in size from 250 square feet to 1,100 square feet, we have an extensive deep clean program with detailed inspections, our guest rooms are all unique with authentic antiques, Bose Wave Radios with iPod docking stations and flat screen televisions. We absolutely have luxury bedding with 4oo thread count Egyptian cotton sheets and premium linens. Due to the nature of our furniture, some offer more storage than others and we would have been happy to do anything in our power to make you more comfortable during your stay with us, including fixing your loud toilet and adjusting the temperature in your guest room to your absolute comfort level. It is our sole purpose to serve you and exceed your expectations.

Please contact me as I would like to credit your credit card for your stay with us. We did not meet your expectations thus do not believe you should have to pay for the service. I would also love for you to give us a second chance to feel and see what we have to offer allowing us to provide you with world class service inside a beautiful building and a room with extra space, storage and counter space.

Sincerely,
Tina Moodie
