“Great Historic Hotel in Downtown Denver”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

The Oxford is a great mix of historic elegance and modern convenience. The staff were all friendly and very helpful, and having a car service for local trips saved me a lot of money in cab fare. The rooms all vary in size and features, but I found all that I saw to be clean and well-appointed, with some great touches. Convenient to all the downtown tourist attractions, with a bunch of restaurants and bars within a couple of blocks.

When you step in the door of this hotel, you know you are some place very special. The staff is friendly and the furnishings make you wonder if you've stepped back in time to a very elegant hotel. The rooms are clean and the morning coffee service on each floor by the elevators is just special and matches perfectly with the relaxed, charming atmosphere of this historic hotel. The location is perfect for attending a Rockies game or shopping, with many good restaurants close by. We will definitely stay here next time we come to Denver.

It's hard to improve on what others have already said--it's lovely and quaint and delightful. The service is amazing. The rooms are great--sort of half modern, half old-timey--although all the modern conveniences are present. In fact, the desk area is equipped with extra electric outlets and the right set-up for work. My room had a fireplace, a huge bathroom, and plenty of space.

Just walking around the halls is a hoot--there are little cozy inlets and places to stop and relax.

The neighborhood is really interesting, full of charming shops and restaurants. The area will really take off once the construction on the old train station is finished (it's a city block away). I had dinner at McCormick's, the restaurant in or attached to the hotel which is...well a chain restaurant that I find is getting old. The food is mediocre but the prices are very high (at all the branches, not just this one--6 raw oysters were $22 and they charged me $4 for each glass of club soda from the bar--in many restaurants I never get charged at all let alone for each glass). The staff told me that they are thinking about getting their own restaurant.

The limo service wasn't always available when I needed it (it's first come, first served) but it wasn't hard to get a taxi.

A few minor points. The bathroom was the only room well-lit enough to put on make-up but the sink is very small and its hard to put much on/around it (make up bags, toothbrush and paste, contact lense stuff, hair brush, etc). There is no special vanity/make-up mirror as in many other fine hotels. And the desk area, while having a desk lamp, is not well-lit.

At first glance from the street, the Oxford looks very average. But, step into the lobby and you will immediately recognize it for a charming, historic hotel that has been meticulously updated. The valet and front desk staff were very helpful and check-in was a breeze. The rooms are furnished nicely, but maintain their historic ambiance. There are many amenities in each room. The wifi is fast and complimentary. Coffee is served in the parlor on each floor in the morning. The hotel is close to dozens of great restaurants, including McCormick's which is attached to the hotel. The wonderful smiling service coupled with the historic charm of the hotel makes this my new home whenever I travel to Denver.

Located at the Coors Field end of town, near historic Union Station, this lovely old hotel offers large comfortable rooms, excellent attentive service, free Wi-Fi and complimentary town car service for a radius of 2 miles from the front door. McCormick’s Fish House and Bar is co-located and meals can be charged back to your hotel room. The fresh seafood is excellent. Also, there is an excellent Italian Restaurant 3 minutes walk from hotel front door. I enjoyed my 3-day stay.

The Oxford hotel is a beautiful historic hotel no matter what time of year you are visiting Denver. The winter decor is particularly gorgeous! Rooms and bathrooms are always clean. The hotel staff are hard working and always friendly.
