Excellent choice if you’re looking for a hotel in the city with a lot of space. It’s a converted apartment building, and the suites still look like a one-bedroom apartment – separate living room, dining room, full kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. (It was bigger than my last apartment!) We stayed here for three nights in late August/early September and loved having all the space. Can’t beat the free parking, too.
We spent the extra $20 to upgrade to their top-of-the-line suite, the Colorado. It was on the top floor, and we had a fantastic view of the city and the mountains. They also provide comfy robes and bottled water every day in these suites.
Our favorite part was the balcony – every suite has one, and ours had two wrought-iron rocking chairs and a table. Plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the sunset with a bottle of champagne. It was also really nice to have our morning coffee while overlooking the city.
Not sure why the last reviewer didn’t feel safe – the hotel is surrounded by apartments that seem to be rented by 20-somethings and 30-somethings with young families, so it has a very neighborhood feel. We walked to several restaurants at night (Benny’s is a hugely popular neighborhood hangout for Mexican, Dolce Vita had great Italian) and never felt worried. It’s definitely a long walk to the more touristy areas though – six very long blocks to the bottom of the 16th street mall. There’s a free hotel shuttle that operates until 11 p.m. and will take you anywhere you want to go, but if you’re looking for super-touristy area, this isn’t it.
My other caveat would be to not expect brand-new furnishings and a marble bathroom. Everything was clean and comfortable, but definitely not five-star. Not even four. If they put a little money to upgrade the rooms, this place would be unbelievable.
All-in-all, we loved being in the city with so much space to spread out. We stayed at the Hotel Monaco downtown for the first four nights of our vacation, and I much preferred the Burnsley for the amount of room and the balcony.
