I have stayed at the Brown several times now. The previous posts are all true. The atrium is open, so if someone is drunk on a floor below you, chances are you will hear them. The "traditional" rooms are old and outdated, the same with the bath rooms. The updated art deco "state" rooms are a little nicer and newer, but not worth the money. You can find a more luxurious room for half the money. Some do not have bathtubs-only showers (I need both please). The only luxury here are the presidential suites. Two of the three of them are nice (NOT the Reagan Suite, smells like leather overload and is decorated in a Californian Western contemporary), but not worth the $$$ grand per night!

As a Colorado native, I had never stayed at the Brown Palace. For my lady's birthday, I booked the room over the internet. The price was comparable to all the other hotels in the downtown area, so I though we'd try it. The valet parking fee is $24, reasonable for the area. Parking and check in were without problems. Inside the small room, like a previous rater had mentioned, there were these black bugs. After cleaning them up, we had to deal with the non intuitive electronic thermostat. The room was at 65 degrees with the air conditioner running, and the room didn't warm up for 3 hours. It's great that there was an ironing board, iron and hair dryer in the room, but where's the coffee maker? A pot costs $8 room service, but they only brought one cup, and forgot about bringing the other one. Wired high speed internet is complimentary. Terrycloth robes with monogram are a nice touch. The linens are top drawer. At 10:30 p.m. we were awakened by a drunk knocking on the door. Three others were standing outside the door drinking, and leering over the rail at the mezzanine. A call to security was made. It would seem that there would be more controlled access to rooms at night. A complaint the next morning resulted in a tacit smile. I won't be back, but I am looking at the Comfort Inn directly across the street for half the price, next time. HST

My wife and I recently stayed for three nights. Thought the hotel was very nice. Our room was a good size, though the bathroom was a bit small. Location was excellent - very convenient for the State Capitol and the US Mint. It was also an easy walk from Coors Field. Has our anniversary dinner in the Palace Arms, which we would recommend for a special occassion dinner (wear something with sleeves - the AC was set on low). For a good breakfast try Duffy's over the road on Court - excellent value.

I just returned from a trip to Denver. I stayed at the Brown Palace one night and hated it. When I first arrived I was told that the hotel was overbooked and they asked if I would stay at the Comfort Inn across the street. I told them no, and was given a really worn-down room. This hotel is living on its past glory.

The lobby is impressive, so go visit, check out the glass ceiling, but try NOT to stay there. The standard rooms range from tiny to small: I’m a small person, and I bump into furniture a few times, so it was literally a painful experience. The bathroom is very old (befitting a historical hotel), with ancient plumbing and mediocre bath products. Turn down service involves piling pillows on the closet floor (well, I guess given the size of the room, there is no other option).
So unless you have a strong urge to live the history, or able to afford a presidential suite, do yourself a favor and book some other hotel (well in advance).
