With the name Brown Palace you expect world class service? Not so.
We thought it would be a unique and charming experience to bring my mother to the Brown Palace for her 67th birthday. Like the Brown Palace, my family has been in Colorado for over a century. My immediate family has never been there.
I specifically called at 2:30pm to confirm my reservation and inform your registration staff that we would be late - knowing most less prestigious hotels usually give your room away without notice. We arrived at 9:00pm and were told our room had been given away. They then offered a room at the Comfort Inn. In some cities, a Comfort Inn feels $20 away from a Motel 6. Apparently there is a Colorado law stating a hotel cannot refuse lodging. My suggestion was put those guests that had NOT planned accordingly in the Comfort Inn instead.
On the positive side, the Ritz-Carlton, world renowned hotel, graciously offered us a beautiful room overlooking Denver, complimentary wine at arrival at 9:30pm, complimentary valet, and complimentary breakfast for the same price of just a room (albeit one that was sold to someone else) at the Brown Palace. To make the experience even more enjoyable, and they knew my name when we checked in.
