It has been at least 5 years since I've stayed here. The hotel has not changed a bit, with clean and good facilities.

Check-in areas is quite small but nicely designed, with no counters but more like standing stations, which makes the interaction between Front Desk personnel and the guests more personal. There is a Starbucks Coffee counter located in the lobby and below, in the basement, there is a full bar as well as a restaurant. The check-in process was fast, yet friendly. Newspapers, a guide to Denver as well as coupons for a free drink at Rock Bottoms Bar (review available) are available at the Concierge's Desk.

The rooms are quite nice, comfortable and clean. The décor is quite good with a reading chair, desk, coffee maker and regular amenities such as Bath and Body Works shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion. The bed, typical of the Marriott chain, is quite good and comfortable. Our view was the office building across the mall (just a few feet away from the hotel). We did not have much of sunlight to start with. In addition, we had to keep the curtains closed most of the time for privacy, which made the room even darker.

Television is LG digital with great clear HD pictures and a good selection of channels. However, the television is very low in the entertainment unit, which makes it very hard to watch if you are laying down in the bed or seated in the reading chair at the end of the room. The Management of this hotel should order the engineers to move the television to the top of the entertainment unit and/or hang in the wall, where it will be much easier to watch.

And for those of you who follow my reviews (or become a 'fan' today), do know that I hate when wireless is charged when most business or upper class hotels offer this amenity for free. A $9.95 charge is quite ridiculous.

The fitness facilities are quite nice with plenty of treadmills and life cycle machines in the "inside" portion of the gym. Most of the machines do have televisions and even a docking station for your Ipod. If you do have a movie or video on the Ipod, you can watch it on the machine's television screen. However, I did follow the instructions to use mine and it did not connect.

The weight lifting machines are located in the pool "outside" area so be weary of children running and splashing water while you are trying to get a workout. The pool is quite small to do any kind of laps; seems to be more for show. There is a whirlpool and unisex steam-room and sauna located in this area. Professional massages are available as well as showers and a dressing room area.

The checkout process was done via the television access so we did not have to deal with the front desk. The entire bill is available for you to see, check all the charges and, if there are no discrepancies, the bill is charged to your credit card and mailed to the address provided when checked-in.

We had a rental car and the cost of valet parking is $27.00. However, the cost of park yourself is $20.00. Think of the $7.00 as a convenience charge. Or go down a few blocks to another cheaper parking garage.

Final Verdict:

Location: 5.0 out of 5.0

Lobby/Reception Area: 4.0 out of 5.0

Staff friendliness/responsiveness: 4.5 / 5.0

Room Decor/Ambiance: 4.5 / 5.0

Room cleanliness: 5.0 / 5.0

Room Amenities: 4.5 / 5.0

Bed Comfort: 5.0 / 5.0

Check-in/out Speed: 5.0 out of 5.0

Room Price Value: 3.5 out of 5.0

Total Score: 41 / 45 ( 91 out of 100% or A Grade)

Final Comment: A nice hotel just a block away from the 16th Street Mall. Clean, well-decorated and comfortable beds make the room quite nice, as it is expected from a Marriott Hotel. Nice facilities, amenities and friendly staff. Just take quite a few points for television being too close to the floor and wireless charges... argh!

A very nice hotel in terms of comfort. Fast elevators, extremely comfortable beds, and pleasant surroundings. Having a Starbucks in the lobby is a wonderful plus. Location is superb in terms of convenience to the downtown attractions.

Watch out for the add-ons, though. Parking costs $26 a day, plus a tip for the valet, which is ridiculous. You can park yourself in a garage across the street for $14 a day, and for $12 a day if you're willing to walk one short block. Another gotcha is the $12.95 a day for internet access. I see no reason for that.

Staff was competent, but not especially friendly. That might be due to the very large group I was part of, but since I was not on a concierge floor, they seemed to have little time for questions, even when they were not busy.

  • Liked — Location and comfortable room.

Visited for a weekend city centre break whilst visiting colorado. The hotel is very well located for the city centre. We arrived on the light rail which stopped directly outside the hotel.

Reception: We arrived early and were allocated the room with no problems. Staff were welcoming. On check out, we had been charged for breakfast which was included within the room rate. This was quickly sorted.

Room: Small but fine. Clean with a typical fantastic Marriott King bed. Air con was too noisy to keep on whilst sleeping. Bathroom small but fine.

Breakfast: facility is desperate for a refurbishment, very old fashioned and dark. Servive fine, food fine but not up to the Marriott english breakfast standard.

Bar: Not very inviting, again needing a refurb. Happy hour drinks and snack were fine however, we ordered two glasses of sparkling wine which were flat.

Pool area: We went for a swim and was horrified by the state of the whole leisure facility. No staff anywhere. Changing rooms poor. Pool area terrible and not plesant to use. I have been in far more appealing local goverenment pools in USA and UK!

Overall our stay was dissapointing. This hotel let's down the Marriott name. I would agree with other reviews that this Marriott no longer deserves the high rates that it charges. It looks like no refurbishment programme has been actioned for many years. There are many large chain hotels in the vacinity that looked smarter than this hotel. if you can get a very cheap rate i would not say no but if you want a treat, take your hard earned money elsewhere!

"Absolutely" : all the staff there say the same phrass. I guess the management had read the reviews here and trying to improve.

My impressions:
(1) The location is great, a block from the 16th street pedestrian shopping mall. A lot of shops, restaurants there. Very convenient.
(2) The bell boy was super helpful. If the hotel management read this, they should give this guy a promotion. He approached me with a smile and proactively helped me. When he saw the front desk was busy, he went to the back office and got someone to check me in. On departure day, when I asked him the methods to go to the airport, he volunteerily mentioned that the PC in the lobby Starbuck area can be used to print boarding passes, and that the SuperShuttle comes to the hotel every 15 minutes to pick up people to the airport. I am very impressed. I think he got what it takes to make this a great hotel. To be honest, I seldom tip a bell boy, and this time I gave him $5 even I did not need him to carry the luggage. If I come back to his hotel, he is "absolutely" one of the top reasons.
(3) Front Desk. Here is the area that needs improvement. They acted like robotic and said the word "absolutely" blank faced. I do not feel some of them want to work at all. Better training or altitude adjustment are "absolutely" needed.
(4) Room: Comfortable, clean. I did not like the loud noise of the air conditioning. It was so loud that I had to turn it off so I can sleep. This is "absolutely" the first for me. I also wish they do not charge me $13 for internet per day, as I am an elite member. ouch!
(5) Room service was great! The food hot and nicely done!

This hotel has a lot of potential to be great! With some more improvement in selected areas, this Marriott will someday come on par with, or even better than other Marriott hotels.

ok i stayed here on the last night of my holiday as i thought id have a treat on my last night !
that was a shock !!
the car parking was very expensive and the information received when i booked on the phone was wrong !

for what i payed compared to the other hotels i stayed in this one was bad as i had a room on the conciege floor and it was tiny compared to the other hotels as was the bathroom.

the room was clean and tidy enough but as i said very very small and not worth the money.
also i had asked for a nice view of denver but ended up looking into an office building.

i would NOT stay here again, although it is a nice hotel and is 1 block from the 16th st mall.
