I had to stay at the Grand Hyatt recently for business - a conference down the street at the Regency. First - the Regency is a much newer, nicer, overall better property. Hyatt should have rebranded in Denver....but I digress.

The Grand is perfectly acceptable for a Regency - not for a Grand. My room was in average condition - the towels were a little worn. At 11p, I attempted to go to sleep but found blood stains (!) on the linens. I requested new linens - they came in less than 2 minutes.

The shower was a little weak, but acceptable. Weird plastic showerhead that was a little unstable.

Gym....strange....overlooks the pool, the walls are damaged....but all of the machines were in good working order.

I've got a HUGE gripe about the parking situation. If you valet, you get your vehicle down a DISGUSTING ramp, and have to open the doors IN. If your hands are full, this makes it near impossible to handle. The valet attendant in the office never checked my tag - merely accepted that the grey minivan was indeed mine. OK - so maybe nobody wants to steal minivans....but still.....

All in all - if you get a good deal - this is a fine property. My company paid $199/nt plus $26/nt parking - that seemed a bit much for what we got.

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — parking; cleanliness issues unlike other grand hyatts

So my fiance and I stayed at the Grand Hyatt Denver on the weekend of December 7th-9th. We had a great time, and really loved the Hyatt.

A couple things: We got a screamin deal from priceline.com for about $80 a night, so we had nothing to complain about getting our money's worth. We came in, the valet was polite and friendly, and even though it was busy, they took care of us quickly and efficiently. We then went to the front desk, and some guy cut in front of us in line. The very nice lady at the front desk noticed, and politely told the gentleman that we were there before him and helped us first, which was nice.

I requested a high floor with a king sized bed. We stayed in room 2119, which has a great view of the Qwest building and other assorted buildings around downtown. We went to the Paramount theater for a concert, which was about a half a block away, which was very convenient.

I would say that for a four star hotel, the Grand Hyatt is a touch on the dated side. If I had paid $200 a night for the room, I would have felt like I got a bit ripped off. But we were very comfortable.

A couple tips, both relating to the valet: It is $26 a night to valet your car there, which to me seemed worth it. Secondly, if you are leaving on Sunday morning, be sure to call down to the Valet before you get down there, as there is quite a line of people waiting for their cars.

All in all we had a great time, the people were extremely friendly, although the guests were mostly mean, which I thought was weird.

At any rate, if you can get a discounted rate, the Hyatt is a great choice!

  • Liked — I loved the location, 1 block from the 16th Street Mall, and very close to everything else.
  • Disliked — The rude guests. You would think that people staying in a hotel would be a bit more friendly.

This is a large impersonal hotel which for 1 night as a solo traveller was fine. The standard of rooms was good for the $85 including fees & taxes I paid on priceline. The location was good for shops & local eateries. I didn't eat in the hotel or drink the bottled water at $6 a bottle or use the internet ($9.95 per 24 hours). If you don't want small & cosy or need to be cossetted & can get this hotel for $85 I think you're getting a bargain and I'd recommend it.

  • Liked — Value for money

The Grand Hyatt is a fine place- a comfortable place to stay downtown.

Good:
1. beds are comfortable
2. rooms are clean
3. showers are good, but a bit short
4. front desk staff is very nice, courteous, and willing to help
5. easy walk to everything in main downtown area (ped mall, convention center, many restaurants, etc). It is a bit of a hike to Coors field etc, but can be done with a small amount of effort.
6. right next to a kinkos for last minute business stuff

Bad:
1. No free internet- ok, this is not isolated to this hotel by any means, but it drives me nuts that I can get free internet at a motel 6 in the middle of nowhere, but not when I'm spending more than $150 in a city.
2. not enough tv channels

Neutral
1. water in rooms cost $4.50 which is just stupid, but typical.
2. price- paid $165/ night which is fairly standard (or a bit on the cheap side) in Denver
3. not much of a view from lower floors (see photos)

I didn't park at the hotel or use the workout facilities, so can't comment on those.

My wife and I stayed here for five days while we were attending a convention at the Denver Convention Center. There is a Hyatt closer to the convention center but that was full. The Grand Hyatt is a safe easy walk to the convention center (6-7 blocks). The staff was outstanding and very friendly. We ate at the hotel restaurant for breakfast one day - actually, the daily breakfast buffet here is $1 higher than that charged at the Hyatt across the street from the convention center and...that buffet is quite a bit better in my opinion. Our room was nice and relatively roomy. The bathroom was nice with a great shower & water pressure. The indoor pool area is nice. The hotel has a tanning area off the indoor pool with an adjacent whirlpool - which is good for sun from about 2pm-5pm. It also has another tanning area adjacent to the hotel's rooftop tennis court - which has sun from just after sunrise. The cardio exercise equipment is very good - tv's built-in to each machine and plenty of them. Several strength machines will keep most folks in shape while on the road. Great place!!

  • Liked — Fantastic showerhead and water pressure.
  • Disliked — Don't like stupidly high breakfast prices designed to encourage buffet purchase.
