The Grand Hyatt is a fine place- a comfortable place to stay downtown.

Good:
1. beds are comfortable
2. rooms are clean
3. showers are good, but a bit short
4. front desk staff is very nice, courteous, and willing to help
5. easy walk to everything in main downtown area (ped mall, convention center, many restaurants, etc). It is a bit of a hike to Coors field etc, but can be done with a small amount of effort.
6. right next to a kinkos for last minute business stuff

Bad:
1. No free internet- ok, this is not isolated to this hotel by any means, but it drives me nuts that I can get free internet at a motel 6 in the middle of nowhere, but not when I'm spending more than $150 in a city.
2. not enough tv channels

Neutral
1. water in rooms cost $4.50 which is just stupid, but typical.
2. price- paid $165/ night which is fairly standard (or a bit on the cheap side) in Denver
3. not much of a view from lower floors (see photos)

I didn't park at the hotel or use the workout facilities, so can't comment on those.

My wife and I stayed here for five days while we were attending a convention at the Denver Convention Center. There is a Hyatt closer to the convention center but that was full. The Grand Hyatt is a safe easy walk to the convention center (6-7 blocks). The staff was outstanding and very friendly. We ate at the hotel restaurant for breakfast one day - actually, the daily breakfast buffet here is $1 higher than that charged at the Hyatt across the street from the convention center and...that buffet is quite a bit better in my opinion. Our room was nice and relatively roomy. The bathroom was nice with a great shower & water pressure. The indoor pool area is nice. The hotel has a tanning area off the indoor pool with an adjacent whirlpool - which is good for sun from about 2pm-5pm. It also has another tanning area adjacent to the hotel's rooftop tennis court - which has sun from just after sunrise. The cardio exercise equipment is very good - tv's built-in to each machine and plenty of them. Several strength machines will keep most folks in shape while on the road. Great place!!

    • Disliked — Don't like stupidly high breakfast prices designed to encourage buffet purchase.

We were able to get a $200 rate through Priceline and thought that would be great for a 4 star downtown hotel. For the price paid, the Hyatt was perfectly fine. There is a feeling that the building is dated and not up to "Grand Hyatt" standards. It feels like any other downtown three star with a nicer alarm clock. The fitness center and pool are particularly not impressive. But the location and views from higher floors were great and the staff is friendly. I would stay at the Grand Hyatt again but never at their rack rate. I would be tempted to try the newer Convention Center Hyatt which may feel a bit nicer.

“Close to Shopping District”

Grand Hyatt Denver Downtown

There are a number of 4 - 5 Star Hotels in Denver and the Grand Hyatt is consistent with what one would expect from any of the big corporate chains.

It is a functional hotel and has all the necessary items for the business traveller, plus a pool and gym and is located just a block from the 16th Street Shopping Mall. This Street is probably a mile long from end to end and is not accesible to regular motor vehicles, but rather has a free shuttle bus. The trees, park benches and paved areas up the middle make for a very pleasant experience.

Other positives for the Hotel include good quality (and comfortable) beds plus good quality fitings. However, strongly recommend a room above the 6th floor (some rooms below only have internal views of the pool) and request one not near the lifts as they go all night. As in most big cities, parking cost is also steep. Even on weekends it is $26 per day for Valet parking. But, you can self park in the very same building for a lot less and it will add only a couple of minutes. The staff are not permitted to tell you this information! The staff were otherwise very courteous.

We ate at a couple of the eateries on 16th Street and also had a great seafood meal at McCormick & Schmicks Fish House on Wazee Street. The restaurant is in an old hotel which has been nicely fitted out and the restaurant is well suited. You need to catch the Shuttle Bus as both the Grand Hyatt and the restaurant are at opposite ends of the16th Street Mall.

Summing up, you wouldn't stay here for the view because there isn't one. But if you want to spend a couple of days away on either business or pleasure and want to be close to shopping and restaurants, then the Grand Hyatt is good.

“Very Convenient Location”

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt during a conference in which the other Hyatt was completely sold out. This one was about 3 blocks from the convention center. The staff was absolutely wonderful - especially in the restaurant. They remembered our names and what we had with our coffee. We were greeted each morning by warm & smiling faces. The room and bathroom were clean & nicely decorated. The bed was the one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slepted in. Amenities were well provided for: coffee maker, hair dryer, a nice iPod docking alarm clock, etc. Location was well placed - just two blocks from the 16th St. mall with lots of restaurants & shops. The only downside was the valet parking which was expensive at $26/night. But there were plenty of parking lots around the hotel to park for the night for 1/2 the cost or less. Starbucks right in the lobby of the office building connected to the hotel.

We will DEFINITELY stay here again when visiting Denver.
