We spent two nights at the Magnolia in late July. The great service began before we even arrived - they had called and emailed to confirm the reservation and see if there was anything we needed. We arrived to find the beautifully decorated lobby and friendly staff behind the desk. We were a little concerned because there was a high-school cheerleading camp there the same weekend, but there was no problem at all. I've had the misfortune of staying at other hotels hosting high school groups and been kept up all night with screaming kids running up and down the halls - but not at the Magnolia. The girls were a very quiet and respectful group.
The room was very nicely decorated, although quite small. There really wasn't room for two people to pass side by side around the bed. Unfortunately, our room was down one of the side arms and didn't have a view, so if you go, you should ask for one of the front rooms (although they might suffer from more street noise). But the bed was very comfortable, with lovely smooth linens and lots of fluffy pillows. There was a major thunderstorm while we were there which kept knocking out the satellite tv, but we enjoyed watching the downpour.
The breakfast was very impressive - along with coffee, juices and milk there was a beautiful array of pastries, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurt and even hot oatmeal. The breakfast area is next to an indoor waterfall, making it an exceedingly pleasant place to eat.
The location is great - right downtown, steps from the mall and the free shuttle, about half way between the Capitol and Union Station, so easy walking to just about everywhere.
Overall we were very pleased with our stay at the Magnolia, and wouldn't hesistate to stay there again.
