As an East coast travelers, my wife and I were not familiar with the Magnolia Hotels. We chose the hotel for its great deal of accomodations with a free drink at the hotel bar, dinner at Maggiano's Little Italy, milk and cookies at night, and continential breakfast. We were quite pleased with the hotel itself. Everyone was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and the decor/interior design of the hotel was quite attractive. We'd recommend the Magnolia to any travelers.

Upon arrival, the front desk staff was extremely unhelpful and unfriendly. We did not receive a proper greeting (no "Welcome", no "How are you", not even so much as a smile), they bluntly asked for our credit card and proceeded to ask short questions before handing over the key without ever making eye contact. The other girl working the desk, also helping a customer, rattled off almost too quick to even understand, the details of the hotel happy hour and milk and cookies? The girl helping my husband and I said, "do you need me to repeat what she said"? She was extremely unhelpful, we felt as if we were putting her out to have to do her job.
We came in late that night to someone at the front desk being extremely rude and again "put out" to have to come open the front doors for us. The next morning we went to breakfast and went back to our room on the 12th floor to find that both of our key cards had been deprogrammed. I headed back down to the front desk and asked what the problem was, her response was brief and suggested that I had added a night or changed my reservation. I told her no, we had booked 2 nights from the get go. She took my card, reprogrammed it and suggested I try pulling on the door while swiping the key. No apology for the inconvenience what so ever. It had been deprogrammed. The following morning, upon check-out, we asked for suggestions on where to have a nice breakfast. The man helping us didn't even know (??), and asked the girl next to him, who without looking up from her keyboard, rattled off walking directions to somewhere on 15th street, never even mentioning the name of the place, let alone any other option other than the ONE restaurant she suggested.
Needlesss to say, we felt the front desk was extremely unhelpful, unknowledgeable, immature, rude and inexperienced.
Also, the elevators INSIDE had old graffiti that had not been taken care of either.

This is a great and stylish hotel which I would recommend at any time. Stayed in a standard room with hardly any view (courtyard) and in a suite on the 11th floor facing Stout Street which was very nice. Housekeeping is impeccable and breakfast very nice (although it is only served until 9 AM - 10 AM weekends - which is not long enough when on holiday).

Also great: Free Newspaper, perfect downtown location (nearby drugstore open until midnight, many coffee shops and restaurants, 16th Street Mall just a few steps away). Very nice bathrooms.

Why just 4 stars? There were some minor minus points, but they add up to "above average" instead of "excellent".

Staff was gerenally very friendly - there was just one arrogant dissapointing exception at checkin. Aditionally, there was a loud noise from a water tube everytime the neighbour flushed the toilet; it woke me up almost everytime. No noise related issues besides that.

Wireless Internet is free, the provider's IP address, however, is blacklisted so most of my outgoing mails got caught by spam filters and never arrived. Also, the connection is very unstable or jammed (sometimes no access for several minutes, mostly slow access) - for me working online a lot this was very annoying.

The TV remote control probably got some orange juice stains, some buttons glued in when pressed down, so I asked for a replacement but the new remote had exactly the same problem.

In the suite, no information about how to turn up / down / off the fireplace was available. The hairdryer in the suite did not work.

Parking is the big problem here: Staff has many creative ideas how to prevent high fees in the adjacent garage, but they all consist of cheating ("tell them you lost your ticket") which is not for everyone. It probably would have been the thing to do anyway - since the system is very unfair and not logical: Arrive friday at 6:05 PM and stay until monday at 5:55 AM - because no attendant is there during that period, just insert the credit card and pay the weekend rate of 8 bucks. When you leave, however, monday at 10 AM when the attendant is present, you pay the whole weekend plus for hours of friday and monday, up to almost 40$! The hotel should make sure FAST they get a special rate here since valet is 24$ per day.

Anyway: Much more plus than minus, I'd stay there again.

  • Liked — Location and cleanliness
  • Disliked — Parking issues, noise from toliet water tube, weak wireless
  • Tips/Secrets: — Make sure you get those parking fee rules right to avoid rip off...

My family and I stayed at the hotel August 11th while in town for a Rockies game and as a starting point for a Colorado vacation. Our suite was large and nicely decorated, with a pull-out bed in the living area for our kids to sleep on.

We had a drink at Harry's Bar the evening of our arrival, and continental breakfast at The Club the next morning. Both places were well-designed, with The Club having a beautiful fountain with adjacent tables.

In general, the hotel projects a more hip environment than a typical downtown hotel, without going overboard about it. The rate was reasonable for a hotel of its caliber.

Two things to note: The hotel could use a concierge, or a concierge-like service. We had an issue come up during our stay that could have used the help of a concierge. A front desk employee tried to assist us, but was not particularly knowledgable.

Also, be aware that, although that you can walk to Coors Field from the hotel (or vice versa), it's quite a hike. We walked back from the Field to the hotel, and it took awhile. Also, a fair number of the streets were not well lit, giving you a somewhat uneasy feeling.

  • Liked — Tastefully decorated rooms and public areas
  • Disliked — No concierge

Spent 3 days and nights at the Magnolia and it really was terrific. Lots of restaurants, pubs, Coors field, 16th st. mall, etc. all within easy walking distance. Hotel is trying to be an Embassy Suites in many ways, but the breakfast is pretty standard, continental stuff. The cocktail hour is nice and there is a very nice lounge downstairs with sofas, oversized chairs, and Internet access.

We would definitely stay here again!
