I reserved 5 dinner & room packages for my husbands birthday two months in advance. I should have realized immediately there would be problems base on my conversation with the reservationist, but everyone has a bad day. She was originally booking for the wrong day which I managed to catch and she didn't seem to grasp although only two adults per room, the party for dinner consisted of 10 people. At the Magnolia, the young people running every aspect of the hotel, think kindness will solve all the problems. They are very kind but make promises they do not deliver.

During the reservation process, the dinner seating was made for 7 pm at the Keg Steakhouse. Closer to the day, the group realized this wasn't going to work with updated plans so I called the restaurant directly to see if we could change our seating two weeks from the night. This is where I learned the dinner reservations were for five parties of 2 people and not a seating for 10 people. Blake at the Keg Steakhouse did what he could to accomodate us but we had to move up our reservations until 6 pm because he had multiple large parties due to prom. Unfortunately, one couple wasn't able to make dinner now. I called the Magnolia to explain their mistake; the first girl didn't understand what I was explaining so she transferred me to Nick the concierge. He too called the steakhouse and now reconfirmed what I had just done, changed our reservations. He also promised champagne and strawberries delivered to our room at 11 pm as an apologie. (They were never delivered.) Following, two nights before our stay, I called to confirm car service from the hotel to dinner, again, it is a good thing, because they never changed the time for service from the original reservations and were schedule at 6:45. Thankfully Ryan assured us we would be accomodated now at 5:30 and 5:45 since our party was so large, we had to travel in two groups. During our drive to the restaurant, I asked how to call for our return car. The young driver, very kindly, handed us a business card and said just call. However, he neglected to let us know car service ends at 10 pm. He was aware we were going across the street to Sing Sing to party. No one from the reservationist, front desk, to the valet service ever offered such information while they seemed to be aware of our plans, but they did make sure to always highlight what was included, like warm cookies, breakfast etc. We took three cabs back to the hotel at 11:30 pm.

During check in, a young valet saw us pull up and turned around to enter the hotel, only when my husband was pulling out did he wonder if we needed parking. I told him I was checking in, and he dismissed me. We later found out we parked in a garage not owned by the hotel and currently do not know how much we paid. We submitted a credit card to exit the garage. We were led to believe by the hotel desk it was $8 per entry/exit, so when the charge hits our card, hopefully we will have been charged only $ 8.

The hotel is clean, the sound proofing within the hotel very quiet, and the beds are comfortable and large; albeit the rooms very small. Bathroom adequate, but sink area small and tall people may not be able to shower well as the ceiling is very low.

The staff is very young including what seemed to be management, so based on my experience I can only assume they think the kindness will make the guests forget the hassle of their constant mistakes. However, in our case, this is why I booked the rooms, so the group could party hassle free to celebrate my husbands birthday, and have "everything incuded" since I was paying for everyone. My constant need to babysit the process was not what I expected and impacted my enjoyment. Not to mention, my annoyance at having to call a cab when I thought we had transportation. While I could care less that the strawberries and champagne weren't delivered, it was proof of another service promised not delivered upon.

For the money we spent, the time in the room, the hassle of dealing with everyone from reservations, front desk, conceige and valet, it definitely was not worth the money. The new Ritz Carlton was offering the same room rate but without dinner; I would stay at RC and pay more for their undeniable service than stay at the Magnolia.

I, too, was part of the April 14 wedding in Denver. The bridal party booked approximately 25 rooms. The list of issues we had with this hotel are numerous:

1. The person who helped the bride reserve the rooms showed her a room that would be suitable for her family. However, when the family showed up, they were in a much smaller room, without the proper accommodations for the number of people.

2. They didn't distribute the gift bags and wedding information properly to the rooms, so some rooms had too many and some none at all. Thus many guests didn't know where they were going.

3. The hotel banquet and groups manager had the audacity to call the bride the day before the wedding and defend herself, instead of simply apologizing for the inconvenience to her family and making things right. Has this person heard of CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HOSPITALITY? What bride want to get a call like that, basically being insulted by the hotel where she is spending thousands of dollars?

4. The room we stayed in was a two bedroom suite. The heat was blasting in one room, but none in the other, thereby leaving some guests freezing and the others boiling.

5. The day of the wedding there wasn't any hot water, and then when it finally wasn't freezing cold, it never got more than lukewarm.

6. The renovations they have gone through are forgivable, however, when added to the other problems over only a couple of days they just become that much more annoying...the paint fumes in your bedroom at night give you a sore throat.

We were treated with less than hospitality from a hotel that is in the hospitality business! Now, everyone has their bad days, but this must have been a really bad one for the Magnolia. While it looks chic and modern, and there were a few helpful and kind employees, the majority of the experience left me sour. Stay somewhere else.

This hotel is located in a great location close to 16th Street Mall. Our email communications with the hotel prior to our stay were answered promptly. They had a portable crib set up in the room as promised and allowed us an early check in. We booked a 1 brdm suite which was very clean and spacious. The sitting area was much bigger than 1 brm suites at other chain hotels. I don't know why there was a complaint about housekeeping in another review; we had no problems. It is also not difficult to find where the breakfast and complimentary wine/beer milk and cookies are served unlike another reviewer - just walk down the stairs off the lobby!!
The doormen/valets were also very helpful with directions and suggestions on places to get food. Plus there's a concierge for more help should you need it. We would definitely stay here again.

Cold Shower on My Best Friend's Wedding Day

My best friend got married yesterday and she put up the entire wedding party in the hotel. All of the guests were given the suggestion of staying there as well. We were so excited until we walked into the suite that was intended for six people. It barely fit four. Then when we asked for a new room they gave us attitude.

The bride was put in a room that was next to a loud train, and didn't even sleep in her own room the night before her big day.
Then, she woke to cold showers in the room. Promising to fix them...they only got the shower to luke-warm temperature.

The staff ran hot and cold. Some of the staff would bend over backwards to help and then some would be so rude to the guests.

The renovations that are going on might be part of it, but they could've given us suites that were finished. We received rooms that were unclean, without towels, hair dyers, and toiletries. I really began to wonder if they were sabotaging my best friends wedding.

I hope it is different for all of you.

From the hotels website you would think this was the best hotel in Denver. I was excited to check in and stay here. Once I was here, I found the service to be less that adequate, some of the staff was rude and I could not figure out why there is nothing to show you where things are. No map of the hotel, no book in the room, no signs. After 2 days I found the breakfast area, still have not found the fitness area and when I asked, I was told to "roam around" there is lots to see......
I also found the housekeeping staff to be less than acceptable. For 2 days they have not emptied the trash container, never refilled the in room coffee and as for dusting, I am not sure if that is a monthly event here or not at all. For the price and the hype, I was not impressed. Too many other choices downtown, I will not return.

Management response from MagnoliaHotels, Director of PR
(Management representative)
Apr 11, 2008
We are disappointed to hear of your experience. We pride ourselves on outstanding customer service and a stellar housekeeping team that has excellent attention to detail when cleaning the property. Our complimentary guest amenities, including the breakfast buffet, cookies and milk, and happy hour, are outlined in the guestroom guide and on the TV screen in the lobby and are very easy to find, as they are all hosted in our beautiful Magnolia Club. We have a fantastic full-time Concierge, who would have been more than happy to assist you during your stay. Your feedback will be shared with our staff members. We hope you will try staying with us again.
