The Curtis is a great, fun property. Most of the staff are very friendly, and during my stay a few staff members went out of their way to help address issues.

The property is nice and earns most (but not all) of its hype and buzz. I would give it a 8.5 out of 10. Our room was a bit small for the price we paid, and the bathroom, in particular, had several issues with leaking and fixtures falling from poor construction. The parking fee was astronomical, as well.

The beds were comfortable and the space was nicely furnished.

This is a very trendy place, and a very fun and energetic one. I loved it, but it may not be for everyone. Every floor has a "theme" (we were on the "chick flick" floor). During our stay - one we made primarily for relaxation - several groups of people were staging bachelorette parties and the like. As a result, I would not recommend a stay here for elderly folks, for people looking for a "quiet" stay, or for a crowd that doesn't like bells-and-whistles, or isn't impressed by whimsy and fun.

I just returned from a three night stay at The Curtis...and I loved it! It was so friendly and inviting...which is just what you need when you are away on business without family or friends. I would highly recommend it to anyone with a sense of adventure. I have no idea why anyone would complain about this hotel...it is very clean, the beds were covered in fluffy, white linens, there were incredible views...and the staff was wonderful. Very accommodating! I expected it to be much more "out there" but I thought they did "different" very well -- it was still very tasteful and trendy. I wish there were more hotels out there like this one! And, the location is excellent - just two blocks from the 16th St Mall area (restaurants, clubs, shopping, etc).

  • Liked — It was unique! It spoke its own language.
  • Disliked — The parking garage could use some more light.

Ok, so we thought this would be fun to stay at a theme style hotel, and it was for the first hour or so. After that it just became a pain. The price wasnt really worth it. The rooms are clean, but not that quiet. You can hear people in the hallways and in the next rooms. Not really bad but enough to notice. The little songs each time you got in and out of the elevator were fun the first time, but by the time we left we were tired of it. Theres really nothing special about this place. Just a downtown hotel trying to be really hip and cool but too hip and too cool for its own good. We got back to the room late one night and hungry wanted to order room service. We were told that since it was after 10pm we had to go down and pick it up ourself and the only somewhat normal or edible item was a turkey club. We got that, a glass of milk and bottle water. We we went downstairs and waited in the bar for four different people ot figure out what was going on with our order they brought the sandwich but no milk or bottled water. They then brought us a cup of milk and a cup of tap water. I told them I didnt want to pay for the tap water because we could get it free in the bathroom sink in our room. Overall the place is too expensive for nothing special. Theres really nothing nearby unless you go to the 16st mall and want to spend way too much money for average food, not to mention how dirty this street is. Downtown San Francisco is cleaner.

  • Liked — bed was nice and curtins kept room dark
  • Disliked — price, room service, tiresome floor themes

Despite other traveler reviews we chose to book our 6 night vacation stay with The Curtis because the price and location seemed to be perfect. My daughter and I were not disappointed. It is true that the doors close loudly and you can hear the phones ringing in the other rooms but we knew these nuances from prior reviews and it really was not bad. Our biggest complaint and annoyance was that the fan could not be set to run constantly so the fan would turn on and off throughout the night and when we were watching TV it was tough to set the volume. These complaints really are minor compared to the compliments. The price for the location was great. The staff at the front desk were always friendly - we would enter and exit the hotel a couple times a day and we were always acknowledged by the staff. When we stay in a hotel for several nights we usually do not request maid service every day so we left the Do Not Disturb sign on the door but the hotel staff came in every day to make up our beds and leave candy on our pillows. The size of the room was more than large enough for the two of us. The location was great because it was walking distance from almost everything yet it wasn't right in the middle of the rush. The furniture was very nice and the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The Corner Office connected to the hotel had very friendly staff, large portions of food, and good prices. My daughter & I agree that we would stay here again if we get back to Denver.

My only disappointment with The Curtis was that I was only able to stay one night!
I checked in late (after ten pm) and the clerk at the front desk was as friendly as if it had been noon. He was very informative, and gave me my choice of the themed floors. I asked him for a recommendation, and was given a room on the Laugh Out Loud Floor. With my room key, I was given an area map, and instructions for a game of Paper, Rock, Scissors. Given the fun theme of the hotel, I thought this was great!
I got to my room, and was greeted by a nicely appointed room, with more fun touches. There was a tic-tac-toe notepad on the desk, nice toiletries in the bathroom, and a large, comfy bed. The hotel encourages you to take home their "do not disturb" signs, which have a variety of fun phrases on them. There were cool pieces of art throughout the room and hotel, my room featured a photo of Jim Belushi and in the bathroom, a funny quote about the institution of marriage.
As I was staying for work, the free wireless internet access was also a great perk!
The hotel features a fun and reasonably priced room service menu, even offers late night dining for your pet, which I thought was another cute touch.
The on site restaurant was also very good. I was only able to enjoy breakfast there, but it was worth going back for! I had a pumpkin & pecan belgian waffle and an excellent cup of coffee. They also featured a variety of eggs benedicts, more waffles and pancakes, and other more regular breakfast fare. The waitstaff at the restaurant was on-par with the staff at the hotel -very friendly and easy going.
I thought the location and room were great, and the staff was very friendly. The Curtis is for sure on my list of places I would return to!
