The Curtis is in a fabulous location in downtown Denver walking distance to many restaurants, 16th Street Mall etc. Very quirky hotel. I arrived after a late flight and wasn't sure how I felt when my elevator played Vanilla Ice and the door opened and sure enough there was a picture of Vanila Ice greating me on the One Hit Wonder floor. Kinda funny though. The room was a pleasant surprise. Brand new. Very clean. Nice flatscreen and a view w/ mountains in the background. I got the room for an average of $100 per night and couldn't be happier. You do have to pay for parking which is a little steep but it's a new and clean hotel in a great location. Also, room service was prompt and very good for breakfast.

I do hear noise from the hall and doors slamming at times but it was nothig unbearable. Nothing out of the ordinary from staying in a hotel and experiencing noise.

Although this hotel is in a great location, near 16th Street Mall, Lodo, Coors field, etc., I would not recommend staying there to anyone who likes to sleep at night! If you are a party animal and plan on staying up all night long, it would be a great place to stay. The walls are paper thin! You can hear EVERYTHING that goes on in the room next to you, even the whispers! Yes, it is really THAT bad! Brace yourself for a fire drill at 2 in the morning since the median age of most visitors is about 21 and some kids think it is funny to pull a fire extinguisher off of a wall and make the alarms go off. The staff was very unorganized when the fire alarms went off, and people were all over the place, trying to figure out if it was an actual fire. I will not be staying at The Curtis again

I travel a lot and have never experienced such horrendous customer service.

Example: I called for room service as advertised in the room (food from the menu I found listed on the room menu) and the front desk said it was not available and was rude when I asked for clarification about what I could get (apparently nothing). I was amazed how they treated me on the phone, and I went down to the front desk to clarify the situation and the front desk agent immediately called security rather than talking to me! I have never been so surprised and minimized in my travel experience. I am a frequent flyer and traveler and never will stay here again...service was inexplicably rude, immature, and unable to deal with the basic situation.

Side note: The hotel is themed. If you like elevators that chant "big hair 80s floor" to you when you get out and you do not mind when things advertised in your room are unavailabile and the front desk blames it on you, this is your place!

I agree the Curtis is seemingly a good value for its overall quality, service, appearance, and location. However, I'll echo some of criticisms already made about noise. The doors for each room are apparently unable to be closed without a fairly thunderous slam. That, combined with a significant gap between the floor and door forces you to hear pretty much everything going on out in the hall. I usually rely on a fan setting on the AC to drown out things like this, but their units don't have a continuous fan setting.
The quirky style, nice rooms, friendly staff, and ideal location would make it a great hotel in my book, if it weren't for some glaring basic noise problems.

Our overall impression is that the staff is great, eager and ready to work and please... but the building isn't ready for guests quite yet. No restaurant, just room service. The 'Five and Dime' isn't a store- just an alcove of a few items- very disappointing. The decorating is sparse at best. The themed floors really aren't except for an annoying elevator recordings and a few photos. The rooms are very small- no real theme to the room- just a small 'regular' hotel room'.... no sitting area and only an amoire- no closet. No night table or clock on the left side of our kind bed. They do not replenish shampoo, conditioner and soap each night. The double queen rooms are bigger than the king- from our experience.
The biggest downfall is how NOISY this hotel was. DEFINITELY ask not to be next to the elevator or the ice maker. People are loud and obnoxious and why The Curtis has any guest room facing the elevator is beyond me. We asked to be moved, but they couldn't move us. The loud 'PING.... going down!" kept us up all night in addition to the loud people getting on and off... It was unreal. When people walked by our door it was as if they were in the room with us, as others have noted in other reviews. FInally to get more than two hours of sleep between the people, the elevator and the train and car noise, we turned on the fan and stuffed a towel under the gap in the door- Not exactly what I call a relaxing night at The Curis. Oh, and we had a room with a connecting door- it was obvious that our headboard was on the same wall as the headboard of the people next door- UHG.
I'm really surprised to see people saying this is the most unique hotel they have ever stayed at- it's really pretty ordinary with a few quirky games around and decorations. Great concept but it's falling short right now.
It COULD be fabulous... which is what we were hoping- but it's not there yet-
Add to the interior decorations, get new doors on the guest rooms, increase the insulation in the walls/ceilings, decrease the obnoxious $24.00 valet parking (or the lovely 18.00 option to park your own) fee and you've got something. The location is great, the staff was great for us, room service good but this hotel as a whole is not really as advertised.
I hope they work on it. We might try it again if we can be guaranteed they've done something about the noise issue and can get on a high floor to minimize the street noise.
Off to a good start Curtis, but we wouldn't come back if it stays as is...

  • Liked — Location, concept
  • Disliked — NOISE, lack of follow through with concept, no restaurant, very HIGH parking fees.
