The Curtis' location can't be beat and its friendly people are a perfect fit for the fun atmosphere. But I'm more interested in a good night's rest and The Curtis has some problems in that regard.
Our room was nice and the "theme" was done tastefully. But it was loud. You heard every neighbors' door, every conversation down the hall, etc. The biggest complaint, and the reason I am giving only two stars, is that the hotel placed us on the 8th floor, which turns out, to be the pet-friendly floor. Around midnight, a very large dog started barking and wouldn't stop. I was beside myself. Dogs and hotels are a no-go for me in general, but I understand some people can't leave woofie at home.
However, its unacceptable not to inform people before they are placed on a floor where dogs have slept, lived, etc., etc.. The fact that some jerks left their dog unattended for a night only made it worse. Long story short, I complained, the staff was apologetic and we were upgraded to another room. Still, I wouldn't have agreed to a pets floor in the first place and no upgrade can replace the hassle and lost sleep. The better room still had some noise issues, so I know its not just the 8th floor.
I'd suggest The Curtis for my friends who are out all night and just need a crash pad.
