Believe all the 5-star reviews, this place is awesome. My husband and I just returned from a lovely Valentine's Day weekend spent at The Gregory Inn and were more than satisfied. We booked Michael's Room and loved its decor, spaciousness, ultra-comfy bed, fireplace, and jetted tub. It was elegant without being fussy or gaudy.
Stephen, the owner, met us before we even got to the front door, walked us up to our room and briefly but thoroughly explained how everything worked (TV, music, fireplace, etc.). Todd, the breakfast chef, was friendly without being overbearing, and his meals were wonderful. My favorites were the apple-cinnamon-vanilla bean pancakes one day and the Eggs Benedict the next. The portions were just right, too -- enough yet not so much that I was tempted to stuff myself.
Many reviewers have bemoaned the Inn's location as being a few blocks from a homeless shelter. After staying here and having no problems whatsoever, I would venture to say that some people just don't like being reminded that homeless people exist. We walked downtown and back from the Inn several times, both during the day and at night, and never had a problem. Our most "extreme" encounter involved a man politely asking for the time of day, then thanking us, saying "God bless you," and moving on. The Curtis Park neighborhood, Denver's oldest, is a strange mix of houses, I'll admit that. Some are beautifully restored Victorians, others are dilapidated, and still others have been replaced with anachronistic modern buildings that look out of place. But the Inn itself is really gorgeous and that's what counts the most.
Would definitely stay here again!
