We use this hotel for business/layovers on occasion and can always count on it to be consistent. There is nothing super-fancy or unique about it but I have never had a bad experience here. There are some better Hyatt’s in other cities but for a hotel that caters a lot to conventions, it’s above par.
Pluses:
Location: Walk to everything downtown Denver or easily catch the free Denver transportation in and around downtown. From sporting events, to restaurants, to conventions, etc. all within a short distance.
Rooms: Large rooms, nothing unique here but consistent. Comfy beds, decent work space, plenty of storage space (drawers and closet), flat screen television and I agree with other reviewers, the windows that open are nice!
Facilities: Great Gym (one of the better hotel ones for sure with lots of cardio options, free weight, machines, mats, bars, etc), a decent indoor lap pool, outdoor spa (great to relax in) and sauna. If you do use the outdoor spa, bring some shoes you won’t slip on when you get out. The spa is metal and gets a bit slippery. You are also near several running trails in Denver so if you want to do your workout outside, lots of options.
Decent Restaurants: They are a bit pricey (as all hotels are) but not unreasonable. I especially enjoy the lounge on the 21st floor to watch the sunset over the Colorado Rockies and get a nice view of the city and the mountains all at once. I have never had bad service at any of the restaurants and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We asked them to “surprise” us one night with a tasty hot cocktail and they “invented” a delicious concoction just for us based on flavors we told them we liked.
Technology: Online Kiosks and or links to your own PC for check-in, concierge service, check-out, etc. You still have the option to talk to a real person but if in a hurry, it’s a nice feature.
Spa Services: I treated myself to a well deserved in-room pedicure and reflexology session. It was amazing. It was a bit pricey but not outrageous by hotel standards. There are also day spas in the area you can walk to if that is more in-line with your budget.
Improvement Areas:
Busy: The hotel is just darn busy much of the time. That’s a good thing (in today’s economy especially) but be prepared to wait sometimes for elevators, valet, package pickup, etc.
Housekeeping: Normally I have had no issues with housekeeping but have noticed that if the hotel is very busy, they tend to do a quick job and are not as through as they usually are. I experienced this one day, complained (my bathroom was not cleaned as it should have been) and they promptly re-did it.
Noisy: Depending on what side of the hotel you are on and floor, you may hear traffic, ambulances, etc. Such is the nature of hotels in many big cities but ask for a quiet room if you are a light sleeper.
