“Unique Country Japanese food and surroundings”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

Really a trip. Country Japanese decor with farm implements, stone tables, Rustic .
like nothing else you have seen. i have waited 2 years for this and was not disappointed.

Went with two chefs and one girlfriend its their favorite. Don't expect sushi. Its noodle dishes with little dishes of country vegetables. The Calamari is differant and very good.

The raman was delicious and good portions. Nationally rated restaurant.

If you have special dietary needs - don't go.

They confront you at the door and warn you right up front. The chef only serves the food the way he feels is right and takes no prisoners. No soy on the table. Our Vegan friend did not have a fun meal but understands - its authentic.

Its quirky - visit the garden and the museum and read up about the owner. Gaku Homma. Unique guy. Read his cook book.

“Too many flies and bees, seems to be headed downhill....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

After hearing about Domo for several years we made a special trip to Denver to try the unique Japanese Country style fare. The building is an old warehouse in a sketchy Denver neighborhood. The decor is award winning and very authentic including a mini museum and a real martial arts domo. We decided to try a unique Japanese liquor but we were stymied in our attempt to have it served on the side with the grapefruit juice. The server simply said that we could not do it that way. The drink was great by the way! We were seated outside in the marvelous Japanese garden and as soon as our food arrived the flies and bees did too. They were very annoying to the point of distraction. The location is right next to the light rail tracks. The passing trails were a bit of a distraction. A mid meal trip to restroom was revolting when I observed a fly infested kitchen featuring a large fish on a cutting table covered with flies. The restroom was just slightly cleaner than a busy interstate highway truck stop and badly in need of refurbishing. The food was unique and quite flavorful, but it was very hard to get past the flies. None of use finished our meals and we all chose not to take anything home. After all the great reviews of the past, we were surprised. It seems like they are just not trying to please and are choosing to rely on their reputation.

“Bully me to order more food!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I have been to Domo at least five times before, by ourselves and with friends. Today was the last time. As usual, we ordered some drinks, two appetizers and an entree. My husband wasn't hungry, so we it was the perfect amount of food for us, actually, it was probably more than we needed...much to our surprise, the waitress told us that it was a minimum of one entree per person. She checked with a manager, who came to our able and told us that we needed to order one more entree, because they are a fine dining restaurant. We tried to say that we are not that hungry and don't need more food...he was only telling us that we needed to order more food if we want any at all...so we left...very unfortunate! This used to be one of our favorite places in Denver, but we will not be coming back there again. Poor customer service - they would rather loose business than serve an amount of food people can eat. All our previous times we have always ordered a couple of entrees (less than one per person) and split it...never were told about this policy...and unfortunately they lost us here. Customer service needs help.

“As if you were teleported to rural Japan”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013 via mobile

If you are interested in traditional rural Japanese cuisine, this is a place to try. Do not expect to find sushi here, think noodles and donburi. The decor can make you feel that you've been transported from Denver to Japan. Be sure to explore the gardens and the museum in the back.

“Outstanding & a Unusual Menu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

Be sure to dine in the garden. This is Japanese Country Cuisine and is excellently prepared. However, if you are a nervous Nelly of allergic to some Japanese ingredients, go somewhere else. The chef is rightfully proud of his preparations, and tolerates NO substitutions.

That said, I would eat here every day if I could.
