Although the hotel is new and looks great, really great, it does not function very well. Upon a friendly check-in we went to our room and found it chilly, to say the least. The bellman showed us how the temperature could be altered and we settled into the lovely room. The room temperature read 66 on the thermometer but we felt very cold. The TV would not "boot up" and we needed Engineering to fix the problem. The next day we commented to the maid that the room felt very cold and would she check it for us. Nothing changed in that department. The following morning we went to the front desk to report that we were both sick and would be checking out four days early and going elsewhere. No one seemed at all interested. We called Engineering again and the engineer was absolutely the only person that responded to the problem. It seems the motor had fallen off the interior unit, the pipes had frozen and the unit was forcing 52 degree air onto us into the room. The filter on the unit had not been changed in months as it was throughly clogged with dust and growing bacteria. He had us moved immediately to another room on the same floor, smaller by far and with two beds. The engineer told us to expect a large reduction in our room rate, if not totally forgiven. In the morning when we were leaving for another hotel, at check out we were given a bill for the full amount. We asked politely to speak with the Manager and a lovely, fresh faced young girl with braces listened to our story. She went into the back and came back , cheerfully, to tell us that she had wrangled $20.00 off per night for us. We were sick, had temperatures, earaches , tremendous headcolds and were in no mood to beg for mercy. She then told us that she was not" the manager", just the desk manager, and if we wanted we could send an email as the "boss" was away. I ask you, is this any way to run a Hotel? The staff, except for the last encounter, was phenomenal. The building looks lovely, but under that pretty facade is a lousy, poorly maintained wreck of a place with very poorly designed heating and cooling systems. Our room could have been a lot cleaner, as there were finger prints on the door jambs and the glass shower door was not clean. On the plus side was the kindness offered to my dog. The staff was just great, but management was very poor with bad communications. I left a note for the "Manager" two days into the problem but never heard from him. Bottom line was that the the young woman on duty took off the last night fees as it was a very much smaller room and we had some inconvenience. The place is modern, hip, in appeal, but not to the standard I expect from Marriott. All flash, no substance.
