“Experience 14,000 feet altitude without having to do any climbing.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

If you already have breathing problems, probably not a good idea... if not, take the drive and experience walking around at 14,000 feet.

“Awe-some Mountain for Nature Lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

If you love nature and the outdoors, you should visit Mount Evans. If you don't like heights and windy roads, it might be best to let your friend take the wheel and close your eyes in the back seat. There are plenty of scenic views from points all along the road up to the top, but not always space to pull over. There are trails, wildlife (marmots, big horn sheep, mountain goats, etc.) and so many picture opportunities for the photography enthusiast. If you're anywhere in Colorado, the mountain is worth a trip and you can stay nearby in Idaho Springs for a few days, Evergreen or go all the way to Denver. It's a mountain to spend several hours at, so start your day early to enjoy it all!

“, although for some, myself included, breathing can be a little thin at this altitude. See the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2013

Colorado has over 300 days of sunshine a year so your chances are good you'll get to the top of Mt. Evans on a clear sunny day. You can see for ever (wasn't that a song?), although breathing at this altitude can be a little thin at this altitude.

“For the light of heart”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

Not exactly a hike to make your lowland friends jealous, but the highest paved road in the Americas gets you to the top of a "Fourteener", as a fourteen thousand foot mountain is called.

Alpine tundra has a delicate beauty that only a small percentage of people get to see. You could be one of them!

“A rookie from Fla and dumb mistake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

Shortly after we moved to Denver from Miami, Fla we drove up and when we got to the summit and visited the summit house (1969) I got thirsty and only thing I had in my cooler was a beer(this is where I made a dumb mistake! I sipped half of it and ngave some to my wife! Oops in less then 10 min. I could not walk or hardly stand up. So we went to sleep in car (still on summit) woke up about 1hour later still feeling a little high. The dumb mistake was I did not know the higher up you are the faster the alcohol hits you, Luckly a couple next to us gave us some coffee. Thank goodness it happened to be a fairly warm day (about 44 degrees) Still all in all we had a great time other than a bad hangover. We went back 3 or 4 more times and always loved it. We moved back south in 1972 and was sorry to hear about the summit house burning down. Really wish the would rebuild it. Oh yes the road was a little scary the first time. At that time no road fees!
