The park is on the east side of town and pretty easy to get to. Parking is street and it can get very crowded on weekends. Pay attention to the street signs for where not to park since they'll ticket, tow, or boot you. Yes, that is the famous Denver Boot!
Anyway, the park is quite large and has great paved paths around and throughout. There is definately a pattern for walkers, runners, and wheelers travelers of various sorts (not cars though). Lots of people with their dogs, you can get a fine if your pooch is off leash but you'll find some in the more open areas playing Frisbee and ball.
If you are meeting someone make sure you know where since it is a big place and easy to find yourself on the wrong end. There is a lake (big pond in my jargon) and a boat house building. The grounds are well kept and the gardens are very nice. Lots of people taking photographs. I would say it is a safe area and plenty of patroling.
