Hotel Teatro is a boutique hotel adjacent to Denver's Center for the Performing Arts. Although my husband and I reside in Denver, we recently reserved a junior suite via the hotel's website to celebrate our anniversary. The hotel was sold out on both Friday and Saturday nights, so we decided to stay just Sunday night.

Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to the lovely and spacious 8th floor apartment. It included a kitchenette (w/expresso & coffee maker), king bed in a sleeping alcove, entertainment area w/music and movie DVD's; and small bathroom--all beautifully decorated. The mountain views were absolutely breathtaking. Although we could hear some elevator noise in the room, sleeping was not a problem. Trains COULD be heard, however, and better-insulated windows would prevent this.

We dined before the theater at Kevin Taylor's at the Opera (the Kevin Taylor Restaurant in the hotel is closed Sundays). The food was delicious and beautifully presented (appetizers were tuna and carpaccio and we both ate the duck). Unfortunately, restaurant service was average, at best.

The hotel's concierge was knowledgeable and courteous. The front desk resolved a mischarge problem promptly. Breakfast room service was delicious and timely (at prices typical of room service).

All in all, our stay was delightful and we look forward to returning. The upgrade to the apartment was REALLY special.

Hotel Teatro is located next to the theater district in downtown Denver. It is a few blocks from Larimer Square and the 16th Street Mall. It is also walking distance to Coors Field and many other restaurants, shops, clubs, and bars located in LoDo (Lower Downtown Denver).

The lobby is inviting and our room was spacious for an old (completely renovated and beautiful) hotel. The bathroom was large with a separate soaking tub and shower and two sinks. Staff at the hotel were polite, helpful, and accomodating. Hotel Teatro provides a complimentary car service that will take guests to locations within a 5 mile radius of the hotel. We used the car service to drop us off at the Pepsi Center and were picked up after our event and returned to the hotel. The hotel restaurants received good reviews from other patrons, but we walked to Vendome in Larimer Square and enjoyed a lovely meal there. Although the rooms are pricey, the hotel location, service, and room amenities make it worth the money.

I wish I had more reasons to go to Denver and stay at the Hotel Teatro. I stayed there in March 2007 while attending a conference -- lucky for me that the conference hotel was all booked up and I had to find accomodation at the Teatro! Room was like a mini-suite: bed, desk, entertainment center, sofa, coffee table, and huge bathroom with shower and bath. Tranquil, zen-like decor. Bed linens, towels, and robe were sumptuous, with great bath amenities by Aveda. Really well set up for business travelers with plug-and-go web access and a printer in every room. Superb room service and breakfast, both courtesy of Kevin Taylor's kitchens; his eponymous restaurant is part of the hotel. Super convenient location for the convention center, only a few blocks' walk.

My sister and I stayed for two days and loved it. The staff is great, the room (two queen size beds) was large, the bathroom was, as mentioned in previous reviews, one of the highlights (incredibly deep whirlpool tub, terrific shower, Aveda products). I thought for the price (mid 200s) it was a great deal. The restaurants they recommended (Rioja, Vesta Dipping Grill) were outstanding, the room service was very good (although pricey). I had asked for a room away from the elevator and got a room as far from the elevator as you could go. It was quiet when the windows were closed, and the location is very convenient for Lodo restaurants and shopping. The town car will take you anywhere.

We paid $380/night, with mixed experience. On the one hand, I would like to commend the staff as very friendly and clearly trying hard to accommodate most every request. For example, the concierge personally went out and found a particular bottle of wine I wanted presented in the room prior to my partner's arrival, which was earlier than mine. Everyone from the front desk to the front door were friendly and generally helpful. So why not a high rating? First, the staff was all young and clearly inexperienced, so even when trying, they would get some things wrong, and did not communicate well with each other. Mix ups included not sending an important business fax, and messing up the timing of a massage around availability of the room. Since they did not have the room ready in time (which was understandable except that they made the reservations), they rebooked the masseuse. This would be okay, but not when they added both massages to the bill. Even this wouldn't have been so bad, but they agreed that it was their mix up and reversed the charge, only to call back AFTER WE HAD RETURNED FROM VACATION to insist on adding the charge back on. Other bothersome things included room keys that just would not work. We had 7 key replacements over a 3 night stay, and by the time we left, of the two keys we had, only one worked. The room was also not quite up to expectations. The main disappointment was cleanliness. The one chair in the room (there was also a small sofa) was so dirty it wasn't comfortable to use. There were also subtle but noticeable black smudge marks on the ceiling, where it looked liked someone in maintenance had worked on lighting and the curtains. Unless you are used to the sounds of the city, be aware that their remodel of this older building did not include replacing the windows, so you get the full sound transfer that single pain glass gives you from busy city streets. I would still recommend this hotel if you can get a good deal, but not at the price we paid.
