I was to attend a conference at a Marriott and when I called to reserve a room, the block for our conference was booked. The staff at the Marriott would only recommend a hotel owned by Marriott, none of which were close to the conference. So I booked at the Monaco a two minute walk away. From the moment I stepped onto the curb I was treated like a queen who was also a family member. Everything from the L'Occitaine products to the turn down service to the New York Times at my door to the wine and chair massage from 5-6 and the cookies and Starbucks coffee was delightful. The decor is anything but corporate--more reds, leopard prints, stripes than meets the eye. The faux fur throw on the back of the bed and the zebra striped bathrobe were as fabulous as Hercules, the Hotel's "dog in training." Staff is friendly, professional, personable and apparently happy at work. And when there wasn't an opening at the Aveda spa for a full massage, they were all too happy to recommend the spa at a competitor's hotel. I will stay there any chance I get and I look forward to staying at other Kimpton hotels.

Stayed just one night-wish it could've been longer.
The Hotel offers something different to the larger, impersonal chains and is better for it. Friendly and idiosyncratic, clean and well located for LoDo, Downtown and even baseball at Coors Field.
Room was a reasonable size and well equipped. Nicely furnished and decorated, with comfortable beds. It was quiet too despite being so centrally located.
Oh, the goldfish we had was also very well behaved.

We had a wonderful time at the Hotel Monaco in Denver. It's only a block from the pedestrian mall on 16th Street, and has a very civilized cocktail hour where wine and little tidbits are served every day at 5 pm, and chocolate chip cookies are available around 3-4 pm. There was a small workout room open 24/7, and on the ground floor, an upscale spa offering massages, facials and other similar services. For those who travel with their pets, it is very dog friendly - there was even a blackboard at the front welcoming by name each of the dogs visiting that day. The room was attractively furnished, and the bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The only downside to our room was that it was shower only, rather than bath/shower combo. It was also a handicapped-accessible room so the door to the bathroom and the bathroom itself was probably larger than normal (we had not requested it, but it was the only room left available since they were booked solid). The shower curtain did not completely block water from going on the bathroom floor, which was a problem we solved with laying extra towels there. The bellhops were exceedingly helpful and friendly, as were those at the front desk. There were so many fine restaurants in the neighborhood that we didn't need to eat at the hotel restaurant, but I had heard it was excellent.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco during the first week of August. This was our second stay at an Hotel Monaco(Portland,OR was the first).
Location: The Hotel is located in a nice quiet downtown location. The porters and doormen are very efficient and informative. Beware: Valet Parking is $25/24 hours with in and out privledges. Downtown Denver offers many surface and covered lots with lower overnight prices.

Lobby: Clean and inviting. Free wine happy hour every night
Elevators: efficient
Hotel Restaurant: Panzano is one of the best restaurants in Denver. Highly recommended. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Note: On Saturday and Sunday the restaurant serves only a brunch menu. The brunch menu has limited breakfast items listed, so if you're a breakfast maven like us you may take a raincheck. We had dinner at Panzano too. It was excellent to say the least. The restaurant does get crowded for weekday breakfast(lots of business suits eating before work) and dinner all nights, so you might want to make a reservation
Rooms: clean with plenty of amenities. We ordered a goldfish to the room. Housekeeping delivered the goldfish very quickly and set up the fishbowl on our nightstand. So nice! The hotel also offers free WIFI in all rooms. It worked just fine. The TV doesn't offer a lot of TV channels, but does offer a lot of great movie channels.
Beware: Hotel Monaco has thin walls. If your neighbors like to be loud, you may be in for a noisy evening. The hotel Monaco in Portland also had the same problem, Go figure.
