My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco during the first week of August. This was our second stay at an Hotel Monaco(Portland,OR was the first).
Location: The Hotel is located in a nice quiet downtown location. The porters and doormen are very efficient and informative. Beware: Valet Parking is $25/24 hours with in and out privledges. Downtown Denver offers many surface and covered lots with lower overnight prices.
Check-in: Easy and friendly
Lobby: Clean and inviting. Free wine happy hour every night
Elevators: efficient
Hotel Restaurant: Panzano is one of the best restaurants in Denver. Highly recommended. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Note: On Saturday and Sunday the restaurant serves only a brunch menu. The brunch menu has limited breakfast items listed, so if you're a breakfast maven like us you may take a raincheck. We had dinner at Panzano too. It was excellent to say the least. The restaurant does get crowded for weekday breakfast(lots of business suits eating before work) and dinner all nights, so you might want to make a reservation
Rooms: clean with plenty of amenities. We ordered a goldfish to the room. Housekeeping delivered the goldfish very quickly and set up the fishbowl on our nightstand. So nice! The hotel also offers free WIFI in all rooms. It worked just fine. The TV doesn't offer a lot of TV channels, but does offer a lot of great movie channels.
Beware: Hotel Monaco has thin walls. If your neighbors like to be loud, you may be in for a noisy evening. The hotel Monaco in Portland also had the same problem, Go figure.

  • Liked — location, restaurant, cleanliness
  • Disliked — thin walls, expensive overnight parking

I stayed at the Hotel Monaco recently for 1 night. Even though I paid a reduced rate, I was given a fabulous room at the end of a hall on the 3rd floor – without asking for an upgrade. I was amazed at the long entrance hall the room had leading to the large bedroom area around a corner. The furnishings were lovely and the bed was very comfortable.

Unfortunately, I encountered a couple of problems. One of them did not really upset me but was a bit annoying given the status of the hotel – the cordless phone did not work. The other was more problematic – in the 3 times I entered my room, my card key did not work twice. Once would have been understandable but 2 times was very frustrating. The second time it happened I was trying to “show off” my room to my sister and brother-in-law. We had just returned from a lovely dinner and I’m sure our alcohol levels allowed us to find this a bit funny at the time.

The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean and decorated very nicely. I would like to stay there again and longer than just 1 night.

The hotel strives to offer a four-to-five star experience but falls short for the price. The rooms are small and so are the bathrooms. The rooms appeared to have a recent facelift, but the hallways and elevators are quite dilapidated. The room service is not prompt and the food is mediocre at best. Staff, while trying and having a good attitude, lack training.

The overstuffed bed with a myriad of pillows and cushions creates a logistical challenge, because there little room to stowe them overnight.

This was a very nice hotel. The staff was very hospitable to my young family and I. My kids enjoyed the goldfish in the room and meeting the hotel's mascot. The hotel was conveniently located. The convention center was only a short 4 block walk away. !6th St. Mall (a popular shoping district) was only one block way. Coors Field was easy to find.

Chose to park my car at an off-site garage around the corner. The rate scale had just changed the week we arrived, so while the sign said $13 max/per day, it was much more than that. It was closer to $30/ day. The hotel charged $25/day for valet and in and out privileges. My recommendation would either go without a car during your stay (you can get around the metro area pretty well on the public transit, or go valet (at least you'll get in and out privileges).

We stayed in one of the small suites at the Monaco for three nights. It was clean and well kept. One curiosity - there were no phone books in the room. We never got around to asking about that, but the lack of phone books in a hotel room seemed a bit odd.

The concierge, friendly and helpful when present, was away from the desk often, and when we asked at the front desk, on at least two occasions, were told that she was "in a meeting" - OK, fine, but why is there not another person to fulfill the concierge obligations while "the meeting" is in progress?

So, overall, a pleasant experience, but there are some details that need to be improved for the Monaco to merit a five-star rating.
