Stayed at the Monaco for four nights in late August. Loved that it had creative décor and a boutique feel, but was actually a large chain with great service.

The location was perfect - a block from the 16th street mall downtown. Walking distance to lots of restaurants, bars and shops – and even Coors field. Definitely recommend it if it’s your first time to Denver and you want to walk to a lot of the nightlife.

The best part of our stay is that we were able to reserve a “tall” room. It had an extra-long king bed and a raised showerhead. My husband, who is 6’5” tall, has never been able to stretch out on a hotel bed, and he was in heaven here. I’d definitely recommend the Monaco for tall travelers. I will say, though, that the extra-long bed was in a room that was already not spacious, so it was a little snug.

Parking was pretty expensive - $24 a night – but the valets were always available and were very friendly and helpful. Actually, all the staff was friendly and went out of their way to greet us. We loved that they’ll bring you a goldfish to keep you company during your stay – that was a quirky, unique thing that made the hotel stand out. If we were looking for a hotel in downtown Denver for another stay, we’d choose the Monaco again.

  • Liked — Located right in the heart of downtown Denver, and the "tall" room.
  • Disliked — Room was very small.
  • Tips/Secrets: — Join the hotel chain's loyalty group before you go - they sent us a bottle of wine as a welcome gift.

We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were very clean. The decor is nice. The location is so convenient. We walked to a Rockies game and along the 16th street mall. We used the self-parking ramp less than a block from the hotel. It is only $5 on weekends. The staff is very friendly, and we got great directions from the front desk. We arrived at 9:30 AM and were able to get an early check-in. We requested a goldfish in our room, and enjoyed the novelty of it. We highly recommend this hotel.

My mom and I just returned from a weekend trip to Hotel Monaco, and took my two large dogs. If you aren't a dog lover or dislike dogs this probably isn't the best hotel choice on the weekends as there were quite a few dogs. Hotel is extremely pet friendly they provide dog beds, food and water bowls, poop bags and dog treats, most of the staff LOVES dogs. Rooms were very nice, beds were comfy, Aveda toiletries, Starbucks coffee in the lobby. But I really loved the evening wine reception and chair massages. It was a really fun opportunity to meet the other guests, and of course the dogs were welcome and got so much attention they were exhausted. It was close to all the downtown activities and lots of great restaurants. Our favorite brunch spot was the Rialto on the 16th st Mall, awesome bloody mary bar and food was wonderful and the dogs were welcome on the patio. Chili's is one block, and they had good salads for takeout which was a lot cheaper than room service. There was a great running trail on Speer Street. I really can't imagine that people had negative things to say about this hotel. Maybe they just aren't boutique style hotel people???? And for the Valet parking being pricey-it is comparable to any other hotel in any other big city and I definitely wouldn't have wanted to self park in that area!

Located in the heart of downtown Denver, Hotel Monaco's friendly service and top staff make anyone's stay pleasant. After staying in 6 different Colorado hotels this trip, their staff was by far the best and most caring. Our suite, though not large, was comfortable with a queen sleeper sofa for our boys and a king bed for us. One gripe--the king bed had a big dip in the middle and was springy-hard which made me uncomfortable. Perhaps other rooms had newer beds. The feather duvet was nice, the sheets were soft, but the towels were old and rough--so were the fun leopard print robes. Perhaps some new towels and robes are in order as well. My sons loved the pet goldfish they bring upon request to keep one company. Request a room facing the courtyard in the hopes of cutting down on traffic noise at night and early morning. If booked with a discounter such as Expedia or Hotels[--], this hotel is a nice price near fun 16th street shopping and restaurants! My boys had a wonderful dinner at the Italian restaurant on the premises.

My husband and I just returned from 3 nights at the Monaco in Denver, and can't wait to return. The concierge is top-notch: she got us tickets to "Bodyworks" at the Science Museum, reservations at Tamayo, directions to Rocky Mountain National Park, and a Boulder map. Even the car valets were friendly.
Pro's:
--great linens & bathrobes, with towels replenished during nightly turn-down service
--nice wine reception in the evening
--Starbucks coffee in room and lobby
--pet-friendly
--wonderful beds and fun room decor
--good location within blocks of LoDo, Larimer Square, 16th St. Mall, but still quiet
--great rock'n'roll in lobby, elevator
--Sony CD players with real speakers
--Aveda toiletries
--wineglasses and coffee mugs in rooms
--toy goldfish for the jacuzzi tub

I sent the hotel an e-mail after reserving a room on their website (good weekend deal) and was upgraded to a suite for our anniversary at no extra charge. They even called me to let me know--nice touch. Check their website for packages, and join their club for freebies.

Con's:
--pricey valet parking ($22)
--no doormen/automtic doors, so hard to navigate front doors with luggage
For dining: Tamayo (upper-end, modern Mexican,) Rioja (Mediterranean), Frasca in Boulder.
