Located in the heart of downtown Denver, Hotel Monaco's friendly service and top staff make anyone's stay pleasant. After staying in 6 different Colorado hotels this trip, their staff was by far the best and most caring. Our suite, though not large, was comfortable with a queen sleeper sofa for our boys and a king bed for us. One gripe--the king bed had a big dip in the middle and was springy-hard which made me uncomfortable. Perhaps other rooms had newer beds. The feather duvet was nice, the sheets were soft, but the towels were old and rough--so were the fun leopard print robes. Perhaps some new towels and robes are in order as well. My sons loved the pet goldfish they bring upon request to keep one company. Request a room facing the courtyard in the hopes of cutting down on traffic noise at night and early morning. If booked with a discounter such as Expedia or Hotels[--], this hotel is a nice price near fun 16th street shopping and restaurants! My boys had a wonderful dinner at the Italian restaurant on the premises.

My husband and I just returned from 3 nights at the Monaco in Denver, and can't wait to return. The concierge is top-notch: she got us tickets to "Bodyworks" at the Science Museum, reservations at Tamayo, directions to Rocky Mountain National Park, and a Boulder map. Even the car valets were friendly.
Pro's:
--great linens & bathrobes, with towels replenished during nightly turn-down service
--nice wine reception in the evening
--Starbucks coffee in room and lobby
--pet-friendly
--wonderful beds and fun room decor
--good location within blocks of LoDo, Larimer Square, 16th St. Mall, but still quiet
--great rock'n'roll in lobby, elevator
--Sony CD players with real speakers
--Aveda toiletries
--wineglasses and coffee mugs in rooms
--toy goldfish for the jacuzzi tub

I sent the hotel an e-mail after reserving a room on their website (good weekend deal) and was upgraded to a suite for our anniversary at no extra charge. They even called me to let me know--nice touch. Check their website for packages, and join their club for freebies.

Con's:
--pricey valet parking ($22)
--no doormen/automtic doors, so hard to navigate front doors with luggage
For dining: Tamayo (upper-end, modern Mexican,) Rioja (Mediterranean), Frasca in Boulder.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco for our anniversary. We had no problems with anything. The valets, doormen, & concierge were exceptional and the front desk staff was average (only spoke with them once). Rooms were very nice, really liked the tall ceilings. The hotel is in a great location. Jim Mann, the concierge was wonderful. If you go to downtown Denver, you must eat at Sam's #3 (Jim's recommendation after he tried to get us to eat at the restaurant at Hotel Monaco). Sam's #3 has great food (all day breakfast) and resonably priced. My husband loved the milkshakes there. I also recommend going to Sing Sing's down by the ballpark (recommendation of the doorman). It's a dueling piano bar and they play everything! They only play requests from the audience and if you don't like the song, offer them more money and they will stop singing it and play your song. They are comedic and you are highly encouraged to sing along with the songs.

On a recent trip to Denver to research hotels for my wedding guests to stay at, My Mom and I were excited to check out the Hotel Monaco as we had read many great reviews about it. Upon entering we were greeted by a Hotel Manager that welcomed us to the Hotel & offered us a free glass of wine, which we thought was very nice. So immediately, our impression was very positive. After we spoke to the man at the front desk though, we were pretty turned off from staying there. We asked him about the rooms, and what they were like for what price etc. so that we could get an idea for our out of town guests. He was not very friendly, and very rudely told us that "he could not quote exact prices" and that we would just have to contact his "Marketing Manager" for further information. I told him that I was just trying to compare & contrast the different ammenities that they offer in comparison to other nearby hotels & he was just overall rude & was not willing to really explain anything or try to "sell" the hotel in any way. I then asked him if it would be a huge inconveniece to actuallly look at a regular room & a suite just to get an idea of what they were like. He actually rolled his eyes & said "let me see what I could do". After much hestitation , he finally offered us a key to a room to check out. He was just overall very rude & we decided on that first encounter to not stay or put our guests at that hotel ever. First impressions can really make a huge difference!

Very comfortable rooms at reasonable rates - considering the quality. Service and extras that makes you feel truely pampered.
