Enjoyed our stay at this hotel ... not like the other 4 star hotels. If you're wanting a pool/hot tub, etc. This isn't your place ... it's fairly small. Picked this one up on Priceline and received a (unintentionally?) free upgrade to a suite. The decor is different from most hotels, but I enjoyed it very much. Turndown service was nice and the location of this place is hard to beat. The bed was comfy, but not as comfy as the Grand Hyatt I've stayed at previously. Everything about the room was subtlely elegant ... nice sized bathroom and pretty much everything in the room you'd want overall. I enjoyed the change of pace from other hotels this time out. There is an included wine hour starting at 5pm I believe for hotel guests. We didn't dine in the restaurant, so I can't help you out there. This hotel is just one block off of the 16th Street Ped Mall. We ate at a local feeling, but actual chain Italian restaurant called Maggiano's that I'd highly recommend. Nice happy hour drink prices there as well. We probably should've tried some restaurants with more of a local flavor though. There was nothing wrong with this hotel at all ... maybe just a little on the stuffy side??? (attitude-wise?)

We love this quirky hotel. It's like something out of Alice in Wonderland. We live up in Vail, but when we venture down to Denver we always bring our dogs and stay at the Hotel Monaco. Great location, and fun, clean, hotel with good service!

Due to recent bad weather in New York we were forced to spend two nights in Denver. The Monaco was recommneded to us by staff at the airport, and we phoned to enquire as to rates, and were quoted $139 per night. When put through to reservations the price had increased to $179 per night! We called again and were quoted $139 and this time got the name of the member of staff and a booking reference. As we had been skiing for a week in Colorado we were not dressed smartly, and we felt a little out of place. Staff were a little snooty! However, the room was great, spacious, with the most comfortable beds and beautifully decorated. Hotel is obviously pet friendly as we saw quite a few dogs around, and it is conveniently situated.
Overall it is a lovely hotel but not particularly friendly. Would I stay again... No!

I have stayed at the Hotel Monaco about eight times over the past few years, and the two latest times experienced problems that are worth mentioning.

The problems: valet parking is difficult due to construction near the Monaco. There's just not enough room to drop off cars with parts of the street blocked and large trucks parked along the side of the road. Three of the four times I pulled up to leave my car, I had to stop in a travel lane and hope the valet would rush out (he did). There also don't seem to be enough valets during peak times, so the wait to get my car back was always over 10 minutes and once almost 20.

Bigger problems: on my last stay, I was put into a non smoking room that had obviously housed a smoker the night before. The hotel was completely booked so they couldn't move me, and they didn't seem to understand how annoying it was to have a room that smelled like a cigar shop. I met two other people in the lobby during my stay that had the same problem. Perhaps there had been a big smoking group the night before, and that happens... but a hotel should know in advance of the next person checking in that smoke smells need to be cleaned out of non smoking rooms.

During a previous stay (in November 2005), the heat in my room didn't function correctly. It pumped out heat nonstop and when I returned back the first night, the thermostat registered a temperature of 83 degrees. It took me almost an hour to get someone up to fix it, and then it took the room until 10pm to cool down.

The Monaco has a nice cocktail hour, really comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, good location, etc. It's a nice hotel, but I have encountered more problems here than practically anywhere else.

Stayed here for one night, just for fun. I had no problems with the front desk. I was able to pay a small upgrade to change to a Jr. Suite, which was definitely worth it. The room was great. Nice size and very classy style. Booked online too, so was surprised that I didn't end up paying more, or treated differently because I got a lower rate then their website. The front desk clerk was very helpful with recommending and arranging dinner reservations. Brought our dog and she was welcomed by the staff and guests with many pets and kisses. The wine hour is great. A nice incentive to staying here. Gotta say it was a wonderful stay. Would do it again, as long as the price was right!
