monaco's website promised copier, printer and fax in each room. There arent any of the above in the rooms. Promised Starbuck's coffee in room. THere's not. Some weird offbrand instead. Promised gourmet snacks in honor fridge. M and Ms and Oreos and Hershey bar. Kids next door making noise til late at night. Dark dark room. Promised suite facing 17th street. Turns out no monte carlo suites face that way, so had to look into a brick building instead on a dark side street. The price of $270 a night is excessive for what was given. The two line phones dont workto let people ring into the room, if one line is plugged into computer. The price of $22 a night to park is excessive given one tips the valet $2 each time to take away and retrieve car. There are parking lots for $10 a short walk away i found. The staff was pleasant, but when complained about lack of amenities promised, it was not followed up on by manager, just sort of let to drift in space. I cannot recommend the hotel for business travelers, or anyone who needs a room with a decent view and sunlight. The heavy drapes on windows did not open all the way. The desk advertised in room is not a computer desk, but a dining table. Really tough to work on. Again, if the price was $70 a night, then maybe. But at $270, for Denver, that is a very high price and things should be as promoted.

We stayed at the Monaco with our young son, in a double. We must have lucked out because the room was pretty good-sized. I love the way the Kimpton hotels look.... the rooms and public areas are really marvelous, but in every single Kimpton property we've stayed at (up to six now, I think) our stay is lessened by the attitude of the staff who are all trying so hard to be "cool" that they can barely stand to help you. It's a real downer when everything else is so nice..... even the lobby dog "Lily" (a fox terrier) had an attitude. (We're dog people and it's rare for us to meet a dog that's quite so standoffish.) The Kimpton group has done a great thing by rehabbing old buildings in urban centers and turning them into real showplaces with top of the line everything, and then making your pets welcome too (which we deeply appreciate) but I hate to see them defeating their own efforts by hiring staff that is too young, too self-concious, too self-important and far too disinterested in the comforts of their guests. It's the group's Achilles heel, and may well be their downfall. Maybe you get different treatment if your hip, young and beautiful.

I LOVED the Aveda bath products. The bed and pillows were EXREMELY comfortable (very rate at hotels). I loved the layout out, color etc. of the room. My best part of the stay was meeting my favorite staff member of the hotel, Lily, the Jack Russell Dog that greets you in the lobby.

Rooms are very small. The valet service is slow and unresponsive. Parking is a headache. The staff trys so hard to be "cool" that they are just plain annoying. The bed is comfortable but so are the beds in a lot of other hotels that are less money and have more services. The Monaco in Seattle is fun. This one is just old, cramped and the atmosphere is less than friendly.

Make sure you order a double, otherwise room will be extremely small. I ordered a double & was checked into a very small king until they found a clean empty double. Also, I've never seen a hotel w/ more dogs. I was here on a business trip, if I had it to do over I would have stayed at Embassy Suites.
