We stayed at the Monaco with our young son, in a double. We must have lucked out because the room was pretty good-sized. I love the way the Kimpton hotels look.... the rooms and public areas are really marvelous, but in every single Kimpton property we've stayed at (up to six now, I think) our stay is lessened by the attitude of the staff who are all trying so hard to be "cool" that they can barely stand to help you. It's a real downer when everything else is so nice..... even the lobby dog "Lily" (a fox terrier) had an attitude. (We're dog people and it's rare for us to meet a dog that's quite so standoffish.) The Kimpton group has done a great thing by rehabbing old buildings in urban centers and turning them into real showplaces with top of the line everything, and then making your pets welcome too (which we deeply appreciate) but I hate to see them defeating their own efforts by hiring staff that is too young, too self-concious, too self-important and far too disinterested in the comforts of their guests. It's the group's Achilles heel, and may well be their downfall. Maybe you get different treatment if your hip, young and beautiful.
