The decor has stripes on its stripes, but somehow it's whimsical and a teeny bit Alice, not over-bearing. The whole experience (5 nights) was truly pleasant. Yes, they allow pets. And they have a dog-director of pet relations. If you don't enjoy dogs, you can borrow a goldfish. Really. But everything is very clean and in good condition. (BTW, if the presence of pets concerns you, the Four Seasons allows them too)

Evenings they host a comp. happy hour for guests with wine and light snacks. The restaurant is fantastic and rated highly. Breakfast is not included, but it is also at Panzano and includes classics and innovative options. WiFi is included when you are in your room.

We had a junior suite because I was travelling with my mother. It was very spacious and in good condition. The location is fantastic. You can walk to a dozen high-end restaurants and shopping. The valet parking is pricey, but they are fast, courteous, and always offer to give you directions.

Overall, we've stayed in several Denver hotels, and this one had the best combo of personality, intimacy, location, staff, food, and guests. Yes, the guests were nice too - nothing sours a stay in a good hotel faster than when the guests cannot bring themselves to be civil to the staff and other patrons!

My partner and I (40 and 43) live in town and decided to give the Hotel Monoco a try for a weekend getaway. We were curious because of the reviews on tripadvisor as well as word of mouth.

Hotel Monoco is not the typical hotel, but we liked it for unexpected sense of fun and whimsy that was consistent throughout the hotel.

The hotel lobby is very elaborately decorated, with very bright colors and plush furniture. Each night there is a complimentary happy hour with wine and some lovely fingerfood (not enough to fill up on, but very nice). Although I am not much for group events per se, I have to admit that the atmosphere was relaxed and everyone was soon in a great mood and it was a nice start to the weekend. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

The hallways and rooms follow the decorative theme displayed in the lobby, with bright contrasting colors, and checkerboard carpets in the hallway. In the room the bed was high and the headboard seemed like one out of a cartoon. Linens and pillows were very comfortable. My boyfriend very adeptly described it as a cross between Alice in Wonderland and Dr. Seuss (complete with the goldfish in your room!) It was all very fun and a nice change from the predictable nature of most upscale hotels. I can see that it would not be for every taste - however, we enjoyed ourselves very much, and thought that the robes provided with zebra stripes and cheetah skin patterns were funny.

The service was very friendly and the check in and out was flawless and very quick. It's true as mentioned in a previous review that I did see a few people walking around with small dogs in their arms - again, adding to the alternative feel of the place. It was not a negative thing to us at all, even though I'm not a dog owner myself, and I did not see any dog hair anywhere either on the velvet lobby furniture of in the room. This definately would have bothered me, but In fact the whole hotel seemed spotless.

The location can't be beat, within walking distance of the 16th Street Pedestrian mall (free shuttle going the length of the 16th street mall) as well as many downtown attractions. We did not eat in the restaurant in the hotel, but chose instead to walk downtown and found a restaurant with South American food for dinner and to Sam's 3 for breakfast a couple of blocks away. Sam's 3 was very affordable and the breadfast food was absolutely delicious and they had surprisingly good green chile. (I am an admitted green chile snob!) The Cinna-monster (huge cinnamon roll) was absolutely heavenly.

All in all, a very good experience. Really I couldn't improve on anything because it is a unique experience that you will either love or perhaps not understand. AS for us, we had fun and enjoyed our weekend - it was very relaxing.

We stayed at the Hotel Monaco for one night and were very pleased! Unlike other reviewers, we were not expecting a hotel similar to the Ritz Carlton -- if that is what you are looking for the Hotel Monaco is probably not for you; however, if you are looking for a hotel with great service, central location and a great value, this is for you!

The hotel is centrally located downtown, in walking distance to the 16th Street Mall (less than two blocks), as well as LoDo. The rooms were nicely decorated. One of the differentiating features of this hotel is attention to detail such as complimentary happy hour, fresh baked cookies at the front desk, upscale toiletries, as well as a gold fish to accompany you in your room (by request).

We stayed at several other hotels during our stay in Colorado but what set Hotel Monaco apart from the others was the level of service provided. The staff at the front desk and valet were extemely attentive to details and were eager to please.

We will definitely return to Hotel Monaco during our next stay in Denver.

We were told that this was the best hotel in town so we stayed there. It wasn't that great if you're expecting Four Seasons or the Ritz. The sofa was a little dirty and they allowed pets in the rooms. Yuck! I hate animals in restaurants and in my home. I would never stay at this hotel again. On the plus side, it was a great location. You could walk to all the major attractions.

As a fan of the Kimpton Hotel brands, the Hotel Monaco in Denver did not let me down. While a little less hip and modern than some of the other brands in other cities, this one's decor seemed to fit the calm cleanness that I saw throughout Denver in my first brief but pleasant stay here.

The service was decent, mostly young employees who were eager to please. The room I stayed in was about 20% smaller than in previous Kimptons, not sure why but it was still fairly manageable. It was neat and clean with a decent size bathroom which somewhat made up for the room (maybe that's why the room was smaller?).

Room service was fairly on time and the food was decent but they continually forgot to provide water, even after specific requests. Perhaps they do a brisk business with the $6 bottles of water spread throughout the room (Denver dries us low-landers out quickly since it's so high and arid).

Dining in the hotel restaurant, Panzano, one night (alone), was a very pleasant experience with all-around excellent service and meal. The wine list is worthy of respect and could hold its own with many of our finer West Coast eatery’s.

I recommend this hotel (and restaurant).
