This is a great hotel especially for families. We stayed there for five days whilst visiting Denver and found it ideal both for downtown and the surrounding area. We had a studio (for three of us) which comprised a king size bed and rollaway plus dressing area and kitchen. The kitchen was useful to avoid having to eat out all the time.
We also enjoyed the breakfasts and early evening meals. All the staff at the hotel were fantastically helpful and the room cleaned regularly.
The small pool is actually a plus for families especially those with young children as you can watch them much more easily, and are not at risk of annoying serious swimmers. It was also a great place to sit at the end of a hot day.
The only downside to the hotel we found was that it was not actually downtown in the sense of being in the shopping area but the shuttle bus runs regularly and some places such as the science museum are a distance away any way.
We would definitely stay there again.

  • Liked — The large studio room and cooking facilities, pool and breakfast!
  • Disliked — The layout - the rooms are arranged in a number of lowrise buildings not in one main building

We always like Marriott. This hotel had a good location considering our explorations of the greater Denver area, very nice staff, and very clean and orderly.

The pool is small, but well-maintained, the hospitality hours better than we expected, and the staff always polite.

This location is very close to Elitches Gardens. There are new walkways across the freeway, so you could walk over there safely if you want.

The neighborhood is a little ugly, but it's gradually improving, and we found a nice cafe just three blocks up the street. It's a great value, and we would stay here again.

  • Liked — Clean and well-located
  • Disliked — No restaurants nearby.

Stayed at the Residence Inn for a friend's wedding two days after Christmas back in 2005. It was just my friend and I so we booked the Penthouse suite/loft. It had a queen bed upstairs with a bathroom, and a queen size murphy bed downstairs with a bathroom. Full kitchen, fireplace, big dining room table. The room itself was very large and convenient for longer stays, or those with families. The only thing I did not like, is that ours was on the backside of the property, and it was like a wind tunnel. Not to mention that the molding on the door was slightly cracked and there was a bit of a draft. A little mending is all it really needs. The breakfast and evening reception were wonderful! The best part is the free shuttle to downtown! We had a rental car but were not familiar with the streets, and especially after a wedding reception, did not want to drive in a strange city. Came back to the hotel after the ceremony, took the shuttle downtown to the reception, and a taxi back to the hotel at night. It was great! Really friendly and helpful staff. Would definitely stay here and recommend this hotel!

  • Liked — Free downtown shuttle and deluxe breakfast/evening reception

We stayed at the Residence Inn for 6 nights at the end of May/beginning of June. With 4 kids, (3 teenagers) we needed a place with a little more room, yet we didn't want to spend a fortune - and for the price of 2 average hotel rooms, we got a condo with 2 bedrooms,(one King bed, one queen bed) 2 bathrooms, kitchen, and a living area with a sofa bed. I agree with previous posters regarding the fact that the RI could use some upgrading/attention to upkeep - definitely the paint on the railings of the stairs was peeling, and the wood itself on the stairway seemed in some danger of rot - but for the price we paid which included a wonderful, hot, varied breakfast each morning, we think it was well worth it. Yes, the pool and jacuzzi are very small, but - did the kids care? Nope, they just wanted to get wet. The exercise facility is nice, with 2 treadmills, a bike, an elliptical machine and a weight bench with a nice set of weights. The breakfast each morning included scrambled eggs, make your own waffles, and each day something different such as french toast, or biscuits and sausage. They also had oatmeal with brown sugar and raisins each morning, as well as toast/bagels/english muffins, bananas or apples, juice, coffee/tea. Additionally the RI provides a "light dinner" Mon-Thurs, which we took advantage of on two occasions - one night was mac and cheese and salad with rolls; another was cheese or beef ravioli with salad and rolls. Not gourmet by any means, but very nice not to have to spend the $ on dinner every night and was much appreciated. Other dinner options(on different nights) included tacos, meatloaf, etc. In addition the hotel provides a shuttle van to take you downtown - we utilized this for a Colorado Rockies game and it worked great - and since parking in downtown can run $12 or more, it was a great savings. We also used the van for a run downtown to a restaurant - just called them as we were paying the check and were picked up within 10 min, so nice. We thought the staff was great - they were very helpful, provided laundry soap at the front desk (for a fee) for the laundry room, and also change for the machines, which was also very convenient - it meant I didn't need to do so much laundry when we arrived home. While we were there all the carpets in all the rooms were cleaned - it was a little inconvenient, but now you all know they're clean! :) We had a scary experience - we lost power one night about 11pm - and it was dark - but since we were going to bed anyhow, it wasn't that big a deal - my husband walked over to the front desk and they handled it well.
This RI is also very conveniently located to the freeway, 6 Flags Elitch Gardens, the Aquarium, and the many restaurants downtown - we also saw the musical "Wicked" at the Denver Performing Arts Center. We loved "Palomino" for dinner - you can see my review under Denver Restaurants. All in all I think the Residence Inn Denver Downtown was the perfect hotel for our stay.

  • Liked — I liked 2 bedroom/2bathrooms; the breakfast; the shuttle van; the staff!
  • Disliked — Very small pool; needs updating/renovating/maintenance

Slept in an ashtray

The rooms were clean in general. The problem is that the bed itself was an ashtray. We arrived around midnight and were just too exhausted after an all day drive to drag ourselves back up to the desk since we were just desperate to get some sleep. In the morning when we woke the cigarrette smoke of the bed was just overpowering and in our hair and skin. Basically we had been sleeping in a queen sized ashtray.

  • Liked — Size of room and full kitchen
  • Disliked — Need to clean or change out the mattresses on the beds.
