When we arrived, the check in person appoligized because our penthouse was booked, so they upgraded us for free to a better room. There were good things and bad things.....the bad things were not really bad. I am not sure if they would keep me from staying at the Residence Inn Downtown again....Example: Mapquest was misleading. The Residence Inn was further from the train station than I thought and from downtown, but the free shuttle to the train station and to town canceled that out. The Inn is in an iffy neighborhood, but we had no trouble and the check in lady was very upfront about where it was unsafe to walk at night. When we first walked into our room it smelled musty and stale, but it had 3 TVS, a large furnished kitchen, two large comfortable rooms, and a very comfortable living room. I slept very well the two days I was there. I did not notice any smell after 15 minutes. We did not have maid service. I thought maybe that was how Inns worked. I asked the check in desk about it they apoligized. For some reason some rooms did not have their garbage emptied or any other maid service. We enjoyed the pool and jacuzzi, but it was very clorinated. I have never been in a more clorinated pool. I was surprised by the free breakfast. I am used to the "continental" free breakfast of cold pastries and hot coffee on a table by check in, but they had a room with table and chairs and lots of breakfast choices. My mother-in-law enjoyed making her own waffles. I enjoyed having eggs, bacon, and biscuits. We all thought the breakfast was good. The Thursday night vegetable pasta dinner was not as popular. My in-laws were unhappy with it, but they ate it anyway because they are "frugal" people who like free meals. My husband and I found the by-jeeves delivery menu in our room. You could order from many restaurants in the nieghborhood and have them delivered to your room for $5.00 delivery charge plus tip to the driver. It was very reasonable. We ordered from the Celtic Tavern. I had the venison tips with cranberrys, pecans, and wild rice. My husband ordered the shepards pie. We finished with the bread pudding. The delivery was fast and the food was excellent. In fact the bread pudding was the best that I ever had. We had a comedy of errors in the laundry room that was very frustrating. First the soap despenser was out of order, but the check in desk gave us free soap. After dumping the soap in we discovered the wash machine was broken. The check in gave us another free soap and quarters. After we washed our cloths, we dried them. We discovered the drying time they suggested was not enough so we had to scroung for more quarters. I think I might give it another try because any place can have one off moment.

It was just OK... we arrived and although you can see the downtown city from the hotel, it is not exactly downtown (although the free shuttle is nice).

We arrived and checkin was a breeze. Our room (412) was right across the way from the main building. It is true, the outside is a little old, but the rooms are great. We had a studio and for 3 people it was more than enough room. Central air conditioning was nice, and beds were very comfortable.

However, the breakfast - although very good selection, was in a room upstairs in the main building that was WAY too small for all guests. We headed to breakfast on a Sunday, and there was a long wait for tables. They definitely need to upgrade the facility because when the hotel is booked, the isn't enough room.

Also- although there is plenty to do in Denver, the hotel pool area and pool are also WAY too small.

I think with a little upgrading, the hotel could be a lot better. Although I have to say, its got the Marriot name, so you really can't go wrong. It was comfortable, clean and the breakfast was very good (they also serve a light dinner/snacks and drinks during the week, but not on the weekends), but they could use a little upgrading.

Overall, a good choice for those who are traveling with a few people that want more room and comfy conditions. However, if you are looking for luxury, look downtown for some of those hotels.

Hope this review helps- I think it was a pretty fair one. Thanks!

We have stayed in a number of Residence Inns. This one is older and has separate entries from outside, with many exterior stairways.
The Good:
1. As with all Residence Inns, staff was exceptional and breakfast selection very good.
2. Shuttle to downtown and area attractions is excellent.
3. We had townhouse style room with queen loft up, murphy bed downstairs and 2 baths -- more room than most Residence Inns, plenty of closets and bureaus for long stay, dining area, living area, kitchen with counter seating.
4. Room was clean, furniture and carpet looked fairly new, bed was comfortable.
5. Free internet access.
6. Good value for the money (we had special deal, $119 for townhouse).
The Bad:
1. Bldgs are old, and outside is in great need of upgrade -- there is peeling paint, wooden stairways are worn and have nails popping up, wood trim is clearly rotten in many places. Outside appearance is so dilapidated that when we first drove up our daughter wanted to us to look for another hotel.
More barren than newer Residence Inns, with little by way of landscaping or open space, even pool area did not was just surrounded by concrete.
2. We had room with outside wall. Right above bedrm window (on outside) was floodlight that bathed room in light even when blackout curtain was closed (which at least should have been larger to help block light).
3. Only bath items provided were soap and shampoo (and not enough shampoo for 3 of us). Considering price, this is no big deal if you know to pack these items.
4.Was very hot went we stayed (90+), and was difficult to keep upstairs and downstairs at reasonable temps. Upstairs was always much warmer, in order for the upstairs to be comfortable, the downstairs had to be freezing. In more moderate weather, this may not be such a problem.
5. Nothing in neighborhood. Really need to drive or take shuttle to dine, shop, sightsee, etc.
6. As mentioned in another review, there is no elevator. We stayed in townhouse style room, which started on 2nd floor, and loft bedroom was on 3rd floor. We had to lug very heavy luggage up 2 flights of stairs.

Unlike other reviewer we did not find the supper selection any better than the other Residence Inns we've stayed at. It is a great option though if you have had busy day and do not want to get into your car to drive to restaurant.
All in all, altho we enjoyed our stay, we'd probably stay somewhere else if we came to Denver again (new high rise Residence Inn is under construction in downtown).

Stayed here while attending a conference in April 2005. Got the "penthouse suite" and shared with 6 other people. The room was very well done, clean with nice furnishings and a lot larger than I expected. The two bathrooms, two bedrooms and fold-out couch was perfect for our group and the complimentary shuttle service was fantastic! A full breakfast is provided in the mornings and on some days they offered a complimentary dinner/drinks "happy hour" The neighborhood surrounding the hotel is worse off than I anticipated (and wouldn't walk around late at night), however, the hotel provides security during the night hours and the neighborhood is in a revitilization phase, so hopefully this area will improve. I would definitely stay here again!
