Budget Host Inn is a good deal for the expensive downtown Denver area, its location is on a perch near the freeway and downtown is even within walking distance (20-30 minutes on foot), as I walked from it numerous times at night (be careful as there are cars everywhere but it is for pedestrians). The property is crammed and small so parking is awkward/rare. There is an elevator which helps with luggage (small 4 story building). The rooms themselves are a bit worn and tarnished but for the Budget traveler, it shouldn't be a problem as I only paid about $36 (be sure to get a Hotel/motel coupon book at most Colorado Visitor Centers or it will cost $46 or more). Bed was fine, good TV channels. Area seems to be safe, motel mostly quiet. Lite sleepers should bring earplugs as there might be some minor train horns and traffic from the busy freeway but it isn't that bad as the train is pretty far away.
Other Budget options are the numerous hostels for $22-$40 bunk/dorm. Restroom is small, worn a bit, and has mold in it at spots but I didn't care because I was so tired and the shower was actually quite good. Outlet plugs are old so they don't have a three plug outlet. AC does not work at all, just shoots out tepid fan air, but I'm used to extreme heat. Good view of the downtown skyline from balcony. I'd recommend it for the accustomed Budget traveler who needs only basics, not for a leisure family vacation unless you can't afford otherwise. In all, I'd stay here again when visiting the downtown Denver area, leave valuables at home though as windows are flimsy and rooms can easily be broken into. Good for sleep/shower/Budget traveler headquarters for downtown Denver.
