“nice basic hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2013

This hotel is basic but nice. Rooms are clean, and reception staff is very friendly. The location is also very good as it is about 1 mile from Downtown and Broadway (Denver's Bars location). Prices are also good: $80 per room / per night. They also have some free parking places inside the property.

This hotel is in a great location for venues.Parking is very limited. Location is loud all night long. Staff was friendly. Also currently under construction. Would not recommend single women to stay here alone.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

I was really struggling with whether to give this 3 or 4 stars because it's above average but not 'Very good'.

We had a pretty good stay at this hotel and for the price, it met, if not exceeded our expectations.

It's a shame really that most of the things that are wrong with it could so easily be rectified. There was no hair dryer, alarm clock and only 2 pillows between us. The staff were able to provide a hair dryer but not an alarm clock, in fairness though they gave us a wake up call on request and we found this to be reliable.

The bed was a little small for the two of us, but to be fair this is a budget hotel and it was well cleaned which is the most important factor to me.

As for the area, do not listen to any one who tells you this hotel is in a bad location, that could not be further from the truth; the street had more than its fair share of homeless people, but other than that it's fine. There are quite a few bars, including one next door which is loud and sadly you can hear it well into the night.

The hotel was an excellent location for the things we wanted to do, a short walk from downtown, the Byers-Evans museum, art museum, Molly Brown's house, The Toy and miniatures museum and there are good nearby bus links for the Hammonds Candy factory, Forney's transport museum and Lakeside amusement park.

You can reach this hotel very cheaply by catching the AT bus and transferring to the number 15 which stops almost right outside the hotel!

The staff at Econolodge could not have been more helpful; they even shared their take out lunch with us when we were checking out for our flight!!!

Locally there's an Einstein's bagels several blocks behind the hotel and on Colfax avenue just a 2 minute walk away is Tom's diner, a lovely place to eat with great food and good value for money.

If you're a music lover there's a fabulous record and cd shop across the street!!!

I would recommend this hotel for any one travelling on a budget and will probably stay there again!

Upon arrival was greeted by females on second floor greeting me only to figure out they were prostitutes which were turning tricks the whole time and appeared to be drug sale activity. Fortunately my room was on the other side of the hotel facing the bar. The room was clean but dark even with lamps on. No Microwave or refrigerator. A/C worked well. I didn't feel very safe even though there were no incidences while I was there. The carb breakfast and coffee was ok. I had a bagel and it was fresh. Wi fi worked on/off..couldn't depend on it. Also there is not enough parking for the rooms. Staff was cordial and also notified them of illegal activity on property. It's a good location if you want to go to bars. Although for the price difference I would stay at the Ramada Inn less than a block down the street and have breakfast at La Peeps near the city park. This area of town is beautiful, old homes and well taken care of apartment buildings. A definite must see.

Room Tip: Ask for 3-5 floors. Stay somewhere else if you can.

Great location just outside downtown near the Bluebird and Ogden Theaters... close to restaurants... In an uptown style location. Rooms are nice and clean only bad thing are small bathrooms. Breakfast is typical continental style... unfortunately lots of homeless in area... Lock your car and remember to get a parking pass or the hotel will tow your vehicle.
