A nice hotel room is only a room, it is the hotel staff that makes or breaks any stay. My room was fine, the hotel public areas were fine. The staff at Loews Denver was exceptional. I wish I could stay at this Loews in every city.

As a professional speaker, I travel frequently and stay in very good hotels. Loews was a very pleasant surprise. I was working at Cherry Creek Mall so the location was convenient for me, just a short shuttle ride from the hotel. Some have complained here about the location and I differ in opinion. Cherry Creek area offers an abundance of great restaurants, excellent shopping, and a convenient location for exploring the rest of the city. Let me make this clear -- this is not a downtown location. It's better.

The hotel staff was exceptional, from the front desk to the bar hostess to the superb concierge desk (when was the last time you stayed a a suburban hotel with a concierge wearing the crossed keys like Dan - or with any concierge at all?). Tuscany restaurant food and service were excellent for breakfast and for one delicious top quality dinner.

I was in town on business, and this hotel was already booked for me. For my purposes it was fine, but I would have been disappointed if I had never visited Denver or was wanting to stay in more of a tourist type area, etc. The hotel is not far from downtown or Cherry Creek but not super close either, and it's not like you would want to walk to any area restaurants. At least they have a car service which was nice, but I would still opt to be more in the middle of things. The room appeared clean, but I wasn't really feeling their "Tuscan" vibe. If I am in the Western US, I would prefer my room to reflect that or at least an upscale hotel vibe, but the look they were going for ended up feeling more cheesy. I had been looking forward to a nice long soak in the tub upon my arrival, but lo and behold I found that I was staying in a property that really was trying to seem "European" - which means they have no bathtubs - just a shower area with it all being part of the bathroom floor. I could understand having some rooms like this (since it also worked as a handicap accessible room), but I called the front desk and was told every room was like this. I dealt with it and then just wanted to get some R&R before having to be up really early the next morning (not to mention my jet lag), but the people in the room next to me were so loud that the person I was on the phone with could even hear them. The front desk said they would send someone up, and apparently they did because it did quiet down shortly after that. I didn't eat in the restaurant itself, but they catered our meetings (breakfast and lunch for two days), and the food was fine. And although you are looking out on suburbia, I was also able to still see the magnificent sunset over the Rockies, and since this was a quick in and out trip to Denver it had to suffice, and it did.

  • Liked — the car service
  • Disliked — the lack of a bathtub, the location, no drink machines

Loews Cherry Creek is a great hotel with a great location. The hotel has a number of nice touches, and their staff retention makes this property a cut above.

With a doorman/bellman and a concierge, this is an upscale hotel. The front desk personnel are the same each time I've been there, and the same is true for restaurant staff. The driver (Loews will take you downtown via SUV) has been there 7 years!

The parking is free and close, and the hotel appears to have a contract with a taxi company, as there is always a taxi standing by in the parking lot. Out of more than a dozen visits, I've not seen a taxi there once - amazing.

Although the rooms show some wear, the comforter for the bed and the furniture are great, and the comfort of the bed rivals the Westin's.

The exercise room seems to be an afterthought, and the hotel lacks a pool. For business travel, this is not an issue. The Loews chain does advertise they love kids, but the lack of pool and the room layout are more geared for business.

Internet service is lacking. It is highly latent, and has terrible upload speed. It makes it hard to do business. There are times I have booked other properties, knowing I have a heavy workload to address at night. If they resolved this, they would have a customer for life.

* cleanliness above average
* beds are great (wonderful sheets, comforter)
* staff are great (consistent, well-trained, friendly)
* Internet below average (hard to use for VPN due to upload)
* room controls are great (digital)
* price above average (rate matches hotel quality)
* location above average (Cherry Creek is central to Denver)

We spent two nights at the Loews. I was worried because after I booked the room I read reviews that the rooms smelled like smoke. Our room was very clean and did not smell. Staff was very courteous.

For the price, this is a great hotel deal, with many five-star amenities, including extremely comfortable beds, rooms that are fairly easy on the eyes, bathrooms with real tile floors, and, in my experience, helpful staff. Granted, the decor is over-the-top Italian and the location is strange, though because my hosts in Denver, who chose the hotel, transported me to it and everywhere I need to go, I didn't have to contend with the location, which seems to be approximately nowhere--not downtown, not Cherry Creek, in the middle of a lot of slurb. The view from my window includes a Walgreens and a Mattress King.

But my experience was a good one: quiet, comfort, and an incident that gives a positive view of the staff. Returning to my room after it was cleaned, I noticed a lovely smell. As I was wondering whether aroma therapy had been added to the list of amenities, the housekeeper came to the door and told me that the cleaning person had dropped my perfume bottle while cleaning the area around the sink. it had broken but, she assured me, the concierge was already at Macy's, replacing it. And indeed they did just that, within the hour.

I didn't eat in the restaurant for its specialty Tuscan food, but again at breakfast, everyone was very accommodating: perfectly poached eggs, unbuttered toast, tomatoes in place of potatoes, just as I asked, for very little money--with orange juice, under $10 including tip.

Denver hotels are shockingly reasonable in price, but this one is a real deal if you have a car and don't need to be in the middle of town or Cherry Creek.

One hint: the rooms have cup-at-a-time Keurig coffee makers (most welcome--those glass coffee carafes that get washed out in the bathroom sink strike me as less than sanitary). The coffee is Emeril's--very strong, and I like strong coffee. I suggest filling the paper cup to 1/2 inch of the brim, then filling the reservoir. That will leave some water in the cup that dilutes the coffee. Even so, one cup will wake you up immediately.

I'd recommend this hotel to anyone with a ride or a car who wants a large comfortable room with good towels, beds, free Internet, and an upscale coffee shop.
