5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2011

My husband and I recently spent 6 days at KC. Driving in, it seems that you will never reach the lodge and it does seem like it is in the middle of nowhere, but once you reach your destination, the property is absolutely gorgeous! We were met by Debra, who was so gracious and friendly throughout the stay. We stayed in their largest suite, which was impeccably decorated with many sculptures and animal trophies. It offered a kitchen that has a refrigerator & dishwasher, a living room, bedroom and washer/dryer. There are no TV's in the regular rooms - only in the 2 suites. The regular rooms are also very lovely and quite roomy. There is wi-fi.
Beautiful sculptures, and breath-taking artwork are everywhere throughout the resort. The tables and chairs are also works of art with twisted wood and turquoise inlays. The main lodge has a small fitness center with very nice equipment, a small, but beautiful spa area, a game room with a pool table, a media room with comfy chairs to watch movies and a self-serve bar.
There are 4 fishing lakes, that my husband took full advantage of. He fly-fished a minimum of 5 hours/day and caught at least a dozen trout each day. Originally, we made plans to go to Grand Junction (an hour away) for a day of golf and a day of wine tasting, because I thought I'd be bored, but once we got to KC, we did not want to leave the property.
We drove ATV's every day, including to the top of the nearby 8000' mountain. The views were amazing. They have hunting cabins up there and lots of wildlife and wild flowers.
We also went horseback riding, shot sporting clays (a very upscale shooting range with over a dozen different locations that the clay pigeons come out of), relaxed and read by the pond, and had the most wonderful meals prepared by Chef Lenny.
Breakfast & lunch were so great, it made you anxiously await his wonderful dinners, always served with wine. Most of the vegetables were from his own garden. Chef Lenny is very creative and there wasn't a single meal that disappointed. Dinner was always followed by a short concert by Chef Lenny, a/k/a "Black Mamba", who played guitar and sang every night. So talented -- so much fun!!!
The whole staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. We took the beautiful, sleek, well behaved horses on a long trail ride with Caleb (a seasoned rider) leading the way. The activities director, Camden, was a lot of fun. He went fishing with my husband, took us to the top of the mountain on the ATV's, and showed us his prowess at the shooting clay gallery (which he actually won a scholarship for).
We can't wait to return.

We booked the lodge over the Memorial Day Weekend. It was our 40th wedding anniversary. Our kids came from Denver, and the rest of our family came from Grand Junction, CO. Gregg Harper & Kelsey who is the managers are the best. They were very accomodating and provided us with what ever we requested. Gregg even found a baby deer and our two young grandkids got to pet and see him up close. The lodge is very comfortable, Gregg & Kelsey and their staff made us feel like we were at home. Chef Lenny was remarkable, he made us some of the best breakfast, lunch & dinners we have ever eaten. He made us coffee crusted rib eye steaks for our anniversary dinner which was incredible, and he baked us a cake to go along with it. When our grandkids which are 7 & 5 needed a snack, they just went in to Chef Lenny and asked him for a snack. The rooms were always clean and very well taken care of. We had 4 wheelers to ride if we wanted to and canoes to play on the lake with. Our son, from Denver caught a very nice fish out of the lake. They also have a shooting range that you can shoot shot guns. We are planning another trip soon.

Room Tip: Any room there is a great one.
