“Fun For The Whole Family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2007

This was our second stay at The Crested Butte Retreat, but our first time with our 3 kids. My husband and I stayed here in the winter for a weekend of skiing by ourselves and loved it, but weren't really sure it would work for a family vacation. Jayne, the general manager, then explained that the new owners were adding another guest room that was going to be a 1 bedroom apartment and that they would be allowing younger children to stay in the retreat if they stayed in that room. They didn't have the new room listed on the website when we booked so we weren't able to see any pictures beforehand, but when we arrived we weren't disappointed. The Butte, as it's called, was just like staying in a condo on the mountain (full kitchen, two stories, deck with a hot tub, laundry, etc.), but I didn't have to cook or clean because Ian made breakfast for all of us every morning in the main dining room and Valentina cleaned our room everyday...huge bonus when there's 5 of us! There was a queen bed and a daybed downstairs so the littlest one could stay with us and the two big girls stayed upstairs on the pull-out couch. The kids loved having our own hot tub on the deck and I liked knowing that we were separated from the rest of the guests and wouldn't be bothering anyone with three energetic young girls. My husband's parents stayed in the main house in "Castle", but we had enough room for them to come up and do puzzles, watch movies, or have dinner with us. We already liked the retreat as a "grown-up escape", but now that we know we have a place to stay there with the kids, we won't have to squeeze all of us in to a "suite" at The Grand Lodge anymore. The only negative was that there was no bathtub, just a really nice big shower, and our 4 year old still just likes to take baths. Also, the bedroom downstairs gets really dark when you close the blinds which was wonderful when you have a kid who wakes up with the sun!

A year ago Valentine's Day, my fiance surprised me with a beautiful weekend of skiing and massage and relaxation at Crested Butte Retreat...and a beautiful diamond ring. That time, we stayed in the Maroon Bells suite.

Since it was going to be a second wedding for both of us, we wanted something small and intimate and elegant. We were so enamored with the Retreat that we decided to come back for our wedding.

After many, many, many talks with Jayne, the property manager, we decided on a June wedding because the wildflowers would be blooming and the winter ski season would be long over.

It was such the right decision!

Just a few family and friends, nothing over-the-top. Jayne helped line up the florist and the photographer, arranged a wonderful ceremony and reception, and generally made it a fairytale come true.

The wildflowers were in bloom and the retreat was even more beautiful than during the winter. On Jayne's recommendation, we stayed in Pearl, the honeymoon suite. I can't recommend it highly enough!!

  • Liked — Jayne, the manager!
  • Disliked — nothing, we loved everything!

From start to finish, our stay at the Crested Butte Retreat was wonderful. We were given such personal attention, and made to feel as if we were coming home. And we truly did feel at home in this elegant, well-maintained spacious lodge. Our room was lavishly & tastefully furnished, as is each individually decorated guest room. We were shown where midnight snacks were in the spacious, marble topped kitchen, and enjoyed a full, individually prepared breakfast each morning, consisting of homemade coffee cake, fresh fruit, granola and yogurt, and eggs prepared to order. We ordered spa services and the massages surpassed our expectations! Jane and Gary extend wonderful hospitality to each guest. We can't wait to return!
